Aloha, my name is Hamlet and I live on the property with my very old dog (Wally) and two cats. I love meeting new people and being able to share this spectacular island with my guests.
Mike Zamarripa purchased this house in 2012
Secluded but near much. A little bit of country without being isolated. Short drive to Pahoa and it's variety of restaurants. Close to Volcano and Hilo in either direction. Also near the black sand beach and tide pools for snorkeling. Just 11 blocks from the ocean and a secluded spot for those 'zen' moments, or a wonderful picnic.
Aloha! Thank you so much for a relaxing stay at the Island Breeze Bungalows! From the moment we walked in it truly felt like home. We wish we didn’t have to leave! But we will definitely be coming back in the future and can’t wait to stay here again! Mahalo!
My wife and I have stayed in many 4 star hotels and, recently, we have switched to vacation rentals. We are so happy we did as we have found the most wonderful experience in travel vacations we never had known about in the past. By luck, we discoverded "Island Breeze Bungalows" These are so unique I would put them against a 5 star hotel. What is so unique, they are not only very clean and well-maintained, they have their own equipment such as snorkeling equipment, mountain bikes and a manager who was more accomodating than a first class hotel consierge. We are definately going to recomend "Island Breeze Bungalows" to all our traveling friends.
We were pleasantly surprised once we found the island breeze bungalow. What an awsome place to stay! Artisticly and beautifully furnished, complete and well equipped kitchen, nice pool and 150% hospitality. Hamlet is a perfect host, very helpfull and friendly and he made us feel at home from the first day on. We strongly recommend this place to everyone who wish to stay on the Big Island!
The property was NOT at all as the photos had described. There has been an obvious change in ownership and the grounds are in sorry shape. The pool was absolutely disgusting and we were not informed that it was "down" until 1 day prior to our arrival. The Linai was dirty and unkept, which discouraged any outdoor grilling or pool time. The new "owners" lived in the orchid suite with their cat and dog. I feel for the poor old dog, Walter, who was leashed up on the deck all day and night, while the owners were away. There were dog feces and urine on the decks, which actually should be reported. we could not wait to check out. sounds like Joe and Denise did a great job with their beautiful property 4 years ago, and would be upset to see how the bungalows have deteriorated.
It's a wonderful place to be. It has all comfort you could think of. Absolutly perfekt.
We enjoyed it very much.
I loved the property. It was clean and had an interesting and open floor plan. We had to change our travel plans and it was very easy to contact the caretaker to alter our arrival time.
It was convenient for visiting the Volcano area, as well as the Puna district and the waterfalls near Hilo (Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls). There were more food options nearby than I expected, so I was pleasantly surprised.
It rained almost every night and it was interesting to listen to the rain on the roof. The one annoying thing was the neighborhood roosters. Apparently they can't distinguish a full moon from sunrise and crowed a lot.
For the most part you can't drink the water from the faucet, but they start you off with a supply of bottled water (and we had brought a case of our own) so it wasn't an issue.
I would definitely recommend this property to a friend.
We had the best vacation ever staying in the bungalows--so relaxing and everything we needed was included. Joe & Denise have thought of everything, including a high powered hair dryer. I enjoyed using the bicycles to explore the area and using the outdoor patio to BBQ. Sure was nice not having to eat out all the time. Joe's brother, Jim, has lots of good suggestions of things to do and great places to eat.
We are looking forward to our second stay next March with another couple whom we have talked into staying at the bungalows. Can't wait to get back to listen to the birds singing in the morning and coqui frogs in the evening, while sitting at one of the patios sipping on some wine. Cheers!
Hawaiian Paradise Park in Kea'au is ideally located to take advantage of benefits of Hilo, 12 miles away, the ocean only one mile away, and Volcano National Park, 20 miles away.
After staying in many vacation rentals, we decide not to buy right on the ocean since the foot traffic from hikers and people fishing limits your privacy and security. Also when the surf is up, it is hard to get a good night sleep.
So we bought one mile from the ocean, at a road the ends at a Hawaiian State Park so we get no foot traffic and we can hear the sound of the waves when the surf is up. We also have come to know and love all our neighbors which makes for a nice little community.
Other Activities: See the Volcano and Botanical gardens.
Golf: Golf - while the Kona side has some of Hawaii's finest golf resorts - Mani Lani, Waikoloa, Mauna Kea - there are many other to enjoy. There are 20 golf courses on the island. You can tee off in the 'Playground of Pele' at The Volcano Golf Club for around $70. (Cheaper if you go with a local) Volcano Golf & Country Club Public - 18 Holes - Par 72 - 5800 Yds P.O.
