ENCHANTING 17TH CENTURY LISTED STONE COTTAGE, 3 MILES FROM THE SEA

Corfe Castle Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Self catering rental, sleeps 4 adults plus 2 children, has internet access.

The cottage is set in half an acre of pretty gardens, beside a quiet lane, backing onto downland and with good views over rolling countryside. We understand that the property was built in the 17th century, but on a far older site. (The hamlet has an entry in the Domesday book and there is rumoured to be a Saxon hearth under the sitting room floor). Originally built as two cottages and a stable, it retains many of its original features, such as stone walls, exposed beams, two inglenook fireplaces and a bread oven. The cottage is particularly attractive for families with children old enough to enjoy the two small children's bedrooms that are reached through a narrow 'secret' passage in the back of an inglenook fireplace. The garden is a series of sheltered grass terraces, set with mature trees and shrubs, visited at night by badgers, owls and deer, plus a patio area with barbecue. Rental price includes linen, towels, electricity and gas, firewood, TV, internet and a welcome hamper

Suitability:
  • unsuitable for elderly or infirm
  • pets not allowed
  • non smoking only
  • children welcome
  • wheelchair inaccessible

Stunning

Had a wonderful fun filled stay. A fantastically well equipped cottage, superb quiet location yet accessible to everything, Corfe, Swanage, Studland and other Dorset attractions. The cottage is ideal for couples wanting a romantic break or larger families as is ample with the four bedrooms and beautiful large dining room and bathroom. The grounds around the cottage were well maintained and a great adventure playground for little ones and stunning views for older ones! Lots of local pubs, recommend the Scott Arms at Kingston and recommend the steam train from Corfe into Swanage. All in all a fantastic stay in a fantastic cottage wouldn't hesitate to recommend or book again myself

thank you for your hospitality in your lovely and very well-equipped cottage and especially for your warm welcome-breakfast-surprise, we have both enjoyed !
Your lovingly furnished cottage with it's feel-good atmosphere and it's beautiful surroundings were a great place to spend some relaxed days and we have had some great walks at the beautiful Jurassic Coast as well!
Thank you also for the excellent driving directions, it was easy to find, even in the dark!
Time was too short, we plan to come again! :-)

Wonderful time in the English countryside

  • 5 of 5
We had a truly fantastic week staying at this charming English cottage. Our family of 6 (including our sons ages 13,11,9 and 7) used this as our base for our many adventures in the Dorset area, including:

- walks along the South West Coast Path
- trips to Swanage for Fish and Chips
- a visit to the ruins of Corfe Castle
- short day trips to local museums (Nothe Fort, Portland Castle and the Tank Museum)
- daily trips into the local bakery for bread and pasties
- a ride on the steam train that runs from Swanage to Corfe Castle
- finding as many local pubs as we could (there are a lot)

When we arrived back at the Cottage we were able to relax in comfort. A well stocked kitchen, a comfortable living room, a large sized dining room, 2 different bathrooms and spacious bedrooms were all perfect for us.

Our family was very sad to leave and we hope to make it back again someday!

Thank you for allowing us to stay in your wonderful home.

Homely cottage in beautiful countryside

  • 5 of 5
This was our first visit not only to Ricketts Farm, but also to this part of Dorset.

The stone cottage has been charmingly renovated and, although clearly from the outside very old, feels warm and homely inside. As described it has lots of exposed beams, but also has a well equipped kitchen, a good sounding ipod deck and some great photos and pictures on the walls.

It's a great base from which to explore the fascinating local countryside and World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. We enjoyed lots of sunny weather, great walks along the chalk ridge behind the house back to Corfe Castle and beyond, searching for fossils in the rocky bays and strolling along the long sandy beaches.

We'd love to come back!

Excellent, highly recommended

  • 5 of 5
A lovely cosy cottage in a wonderful location. We have stayed here over the last 7 years and it has never let us down. First on honeymoon, then with 1 baby and now with another. I have not left any reviews before, however t his time I thought I might.
On arrival my wife was was" moving in " and burst in to tears. I asked her in a caring husbandly way " What's the matter darling ? " She replied " Its as beautiful as I remember, why did we ever stay anywhere else !"
I can't say any more than that !

The cottage is set in Purbeck, the part of Dorset that was the inspiration for Enid Blyton's 'Famous Five' stories. Immediately behind the cottage is downland with wonderful views and, on the summit, a Neolithic long barrow and Bronze Age burial mounds. Nearby (3 miles) are the excellent sandy beach and nature reserve at Studland Bay, the seaside resort town of Swanage and the start of the World Heritage fossil-rich 'Jurassic Coast' . The nearest village (2 miles) is Corfe Castle, with its picturesque stone cottages and ruined castle and a good selection of restaurants and pubs. Within 10 miles are also a tank museum, 'Monkeyworld', Brownsea Island (with its red squirrels), 2 adventure farms, a steam railway, numerous other beaches and several riding stables. There are fine walks over the hills and along the coast and pretty villages and pubs. Within an hour's drive lie the New Forest and most of Dorset and southern Witshire.

Notes:
One of the children's bedrooms has a sloping roof and the other only 5'7'' headroom, so neither is suitable for adults. Both are accessible through a narrow passageway in the back of the inglenook fireplace in the dining room on the ground floor. The large main bathroom is en suite to the master bedroom (with a 5' double bed). The second double bedroom has a 4'6'' bed. There is an additional shower room with w/c on the ground floor. While there is a cot and high chair, there is no stair gate for toddlers. The sitting room is large and comfortable, with a wood burning stove alongside the old bread oven in the inglenook, plus piano. Also on the ground floor are a characterful dining room, a pretty kitchen and a utility room. Full gas central heating. The price includes gas, electricity and firewood, sheets, towels and soap, wireless broadband internet access and Ipod dock, plus a hamper containing coffee, tea, sugar, bread, cake, butter, milk, jam, cheese and eggs.
