Unlike much of the south, the city of Savannah was not burned in the Civil War, so many old homes have survived to this day. John Jakes recent novel, ''Savannah or A Gift for Mr. Lincoln' paints a very clear picture of life in Savannah during the Civil War and the Lester family who built this house.
Today Savannah has the largest Historic District by area in the USA and many grand old houses have been saved and restored. When I bought this house in 2005 it was in pretty sad shape, no heat, countless leaks and just plain ugly but now the old gal is fixed up and ready for the next century.
The house is located on 35th St. between Abercorn & Drayton and it's a good walk to downtown but parking, tour buses and crowds are never a problem.
It's great living in this big old house and being able to share it!
