About Bill Port

Hello, my name is Bill Port. I am a local RE/MAX Real Estate Broker. I have previously owned a construction business and have had the opportunity to rennovate the homes of some of Chicagoland's most prestigious residents. While I now work as a full time real estate broker, I still enjoy building and working with my hands. This home was a true joy to transform into what it is today. This is my family's home and we will gladly let you use it as yours also.

When my family purchased this home it was in need of great repair. The home was basically a series of multiple additions; the oldest of which originated in the 1800's Today, there is very little that visably remains of the original structures. We have rennovated this home inside and out in Adirondack Style, with log siding to complete it's rustic feel. The look is rustic, but the feeling is pure comfort. While in the home you will notice the craftsmanship in nearly every room, as well as in the exterior decor. We try to constantly add to the artistic charm of the home. Our most recent addition is a hand crafted Totem Pole carving that guards the front door. If you are looking for a peaceful home to relax with your friends and family, you should consider staying here. We enjoy having guests enjoy the beauty of the lake. Cedar Lake is located in Northwest Indiana, part of South Chicagoland, Cedar Lake is an 880 acre recreational lake. In the early 1900's Cedar Lake supplied much of Chicago's meat packing industry with ice. In the 1920's the lake thrived as a vacation destination for many Chicagoans who would arrive daily by train. Less than an hour's drive from Chicago, Cedar Lake is a great place for a family get-a-way. Today Cedar Lake is growing again with the addition of many luxury homes and condominiums on the lake. there are a number of lake front restaurants to enjoy, including the sand bar and most recently the Light House, with beautiful outdoor dining.

This is a very very nice house!! We had the best time there ever and will rent it again next summer. Every friend of mine who walked inside were stunned. Everything was very nice and clean. And it truly felt like living at home. A hudge balcony was The Spot of ours and those sunsets on the lake were just mindblowing. And the lake is like few steps away from the house- very important! Stores, gas stations or anyything else you might need are close by. And it's about 30min-1hr drive to the house from Il, depending on where you live. What else could you ask for??

LAZY WEEK AT THE LOG CABIN

THE LOG CABIN WAS BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS. WE HAD 12 ADULTS AND 3 CHILDREN ALL WEEK AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF SPACE FOR EVERYONE. THE KITCHEN HAS EVERYTHING NEEDED TO COOK FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE BOTH INSIDE AND OUT ON THE GRILL, AND THERE IS PLENTY OF SEATING. THERE ARE A LOT OF STAIRS DOWN TO THE WATER, AND THEY PREVENTED THE LITTLE ONES FROM GOING TO THE WATER WITHOUT AN ADULT...ALSO A GOOD WAY TO KEEP IN SHAPE! THE LAKE WAS QUIET, AND WE USED OUR OWN CANOE. WE HAD A VERY RELAXING WEEK. IT WAS GREAT.

A beautiful modern home

We had a pretty rambunctious group of people, seven little kids under five, and they were fantastically entertained on the well manicured lawn and the water that was shallow enough for most of them to touch bottom.

I was in charge of all the food preparation and the up to date kitchen was great. If I had any complaints is what that I didn't realize the water was sulphured well water. We had to run out and buy bottles of water for cooking, tooth brushing and drinking. It could be we're just spoiled city people, but it took a lot of us by surprise.

Otherwise, great view, great accommodations, I'd love to return.
Recommended for:  Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: We do have well water. It is softened, however, we had a few large groups in a row stay at the home and the water softner could not keep up. It is rare to have that happen and the water is again in perfect condition.
