Wilmington House Rental Photos and Description

2 queen bedrooms, 1 bath, queen and single foldout, sleeps 7 (3 couples + 1)

This ABSOLUTELY charming bungalow in the historic district of Wilmington was built in 1916, has 9 foot ceilings, and is located right off the popular Wrightsville Avenue amidst older homes constantly being remodeled. It has two bedrooms, each with queen beds, and a single bath, with a queen size sleeper sofa and a large chair with a single size sleeper in it, making it a great place for up to 7 (3 couples + one extra) to sleep.

You are approximately 1 mile from Front Street and the Cape Fear River and only about 15 minutes from Wrightsville Beach. Across the street is a house used in the TV series One Tree Hill. It is the house Lucas, played by Chad Michael Murray, lives in.

Its walking distance to a wonderful little breakfast and lunch diner, a great park with a play set for kids and a large field for soccer, baseball, football, or playing with your dog. Across from the park is a Port City Java.

You can bring your own linens or rent from Seaside Linen (http://seasidelinen.com).

About Allen Wyke

Wyke Properties, LLC was founded by Allen Wyke.

Allen Wyke purchased this house in 2002

Why Allen Wyke chose Wilmington

As a child, Allen use to visit family and vacation in Wilmington, so he has always had a strong attraction and sense of belonging to the area. In 2002, when he bought the home, he was looking to find a place that needed some work, but would ultimately offer a destination...a home for friends, family and vacation renters to enjoy. The home is located on a unique one way street in its neighborhood, which was attractive, and there were numerous homes being remodeled. Fast forward to today, and nearly all of the homes on our street have been remodeled, a new Neighborhood Association has been formed, and we couldn't be more happy to not only provide the location for rental, but he also love to go himself with family and friends.

Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

The house was so beautiful! The pictures do not do it justice, it is much bigger than I had thought, we had 7 people and fit very comfortably in the home. We would have loved to stay longer, had a wonderful time and hope to return!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the great review! You are correct, in that its hard to get pictures that show the detail in the home and the spaciousness of it. When we had the recent remodel performed, we actually hired carpenters to do the work, so all of the molding in the home (except the crown) is hand cut and routed...even the shoe molding! And by removing the wall between the living room and dining room, coupled with removing the original ceilings and having them leveled and re-sheet rocked, their 9' height really opens up the entire home. And come back any time, we would love to have you stay with us again!

Nice home, but AC was an issue

  • 3 of 5

We stayed in this home in August of 2014. It's a charming home with a lot of character. One thing I liked is that it didn't smell "old and musty" like the home my sister was staying in. We never had a problem finding parking on the street either. The kitchen was well-equipped with dishes and cookware.

The one negative issue was the AC. It's controlled by the owner remotely and there's a Nest device on the wall to monitor the movement in the home and adjust the temp accordingly if no one is home. The home is set at 78 degrees and in the summer and with humidity that's just too hot. We woke up in the middle of the night sweating and after realizing we were "locked out" of the thermostat I texted the owner at 4:30am to see if he would please turn the AC down. He did and apologized, but by mid morning the temp was back up. The temp was warm again the next night. We suffered through that night because my husband felt we shouldn't have to keep requesting for the temperature to be turned down if we had already let them know that 78 was much warmer than we were used to and uncomfortable even with the ceiling fans on full speed. If you're planning a trip in the warmer months I would ask ahead of time if you can have the temp turned down for the entire stay.

Owner's Response: I am REALLY sorry the temperature was an issue on your visit back in August of last year. It was certainly not the normal circumstances. The home was not set at 78...I have never set it that high, as that is too warm. The issue was actually that the HVAC unit was not functioning properly and it, unfortunately, started to degrade to its end of life during your visit. It simply was not working at all. I had someone out to temporarily fix it after your visit, which improved it long enough for me to have the unit completely replaced 2 weeks later (which was the soonest it could be done given the rental schedule and the schedule of the HVAC vendor). At this point, everything is great! There is a brand new, insanely high efficiency and significantly more powerful, unit installed that was put in over 6 months ago. We just went through probably the coldest Winter the East has seen in decades and it worked wonderfully! And now its all ready to embrace the Summer! Again, I am sorry the unit died on your visit. Given it was not possible for me to replace the unit on your visit, I would have been more than happy to assist in finding a new location and refunding you if I would have known. This is our first 3 Star rating and we certainly would not want that, as we strive for all 5 Stars...we have never had a 3 Star in the 8 years we have been renting. We hope everything else was wonderful though.

Great Place! Central Location!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place and a central location to explore all that Wilmington and surroundings have to offer. Neighbors are friendly and almost all have dogs. Among the many 1900s bungalows in Wilmington, this rates among the top. Allen has done a top-notch job in renovating this fine house. All was clean and as advertised, and he was very responsive and easy to work with. We've been using VRBO & Home Away for over 15 years and this rental is among our top favorites. Especially for all the history, restaurants and attractions in the area! Our dog LOVED the fenced yard and the nearby park. Our only minor recommendation would be to have a rubber-backed carpet mat or runner inside the front door to catch possibly sandy shoes and paws. The wooden floors are beautiful and we didn't want to track them up. Even though there's a sponge mop provided in the utility room, the addition of a simple broom and dustpan would help to keep the floors, back entry and back porch clean during the stay rather than rely on just a weekly cleaning by the maid service. If you're a dog owner, you know what we mean! But all-in-all, this is a great place, and we had a wonderful time!

Cozy Little House

  • 5 of 5

The bungalow is located in the historic district, which makes for great walking tours of the neighborhood. Close to parks and the downtown area, and great for pets, too.

Great house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and 2 of our friends had a very relaxing weekend in this house. We enjoyed spending the day in Wilmington and then relaxing on the screened porch in the evenings. It is an old house with modern updates that make it very comfortable.
