Enjoy a little bit of country and history located in the heart of our city, one mile from downtown New Braunfels and one mile from Gruene, Texas. The first home built by Ernst and Antoinette Gruene in 1857 still exists in a secluded, farm-like setting. Relax among giant oak trees and refreshing breezes. Country comes alive as you make memories around the large campfire. Quietly gaze at the open sky, with silence broken only by the whistle of the distant train and sounds of the native wildlife. Three bedrooms (King, Queen, twin trundle, convertible sofa bed for two in living room - sleeps eight). Large bath with double sinks, separate shower and old fashioned footed tub. Additional bath with shower included. Fully furnished kitchen, washer and dryer, cable TV, internet access, BBQ pit with smokebox, picnic tables, outside patios with fireplaces, horseshoe set-up, two adult bicycles, large hammock, fine linens and down pillows, games, books, magazines, movies.

  • Welsch's Corner is our rustic room with a 4-poster bed containing an exposed wall showing the original 'fach werk' built in 1856. Animal skins and a trophy deer mount give this room warmth and a kinship to mother nature. Miss Emily's Garden has a vintage Victorian influence complete with antique bed and flowered block quilt bedspread. Three large full length windows look out on a large picture-book oak tree that shades the lush, green landscape on the west side yard. Ella's Attic brings out the child in us all with it's sloped attic style ceiling and red wrought-iron daybed with pull-out trundle bed. Antique children's coats and decorative wall paintings add charm to this darling room. Our self-contained cottage is complete with a king bed, and 2 adult size cots, efficiency size kitchen, and bathroom with shower. A cozy get-away!

Old Fashioned Holiday

Our family enjoyed the privelege of staying at the Rock Street Retreat for a memorable holiday. There were 11 of us, ages 73 to 5 and each one had something special to say about the experience.

We often go different places for holidays and this is the first time everyone wants to go back.

A truly great experience. The house is charming, the yard unbelieveable and every amenity is available.

Wonderful Vacation Spot

My friends and I spent a couple of nights at Rock St. Retreat early in May, 2008. My only regret is that we didn't have more time there. It was one of the most relaxing times I've had in a long time. It was an absolute delight to sit on the patio with a glass of wine and watch the deer feed in the evening. A bonus was the fireflies! I haven't seen fireflies in ages.

This was a perfect place for a girl's getaway. We were close to the outlet mall and also to the Riverwalk in San Antonio. The attention to detail to make their guests feel at home was outstanding on the part of the hosts. We especially enjoyed reading the history of the property and made use of the information they provided regarding restaurants and places of interest.

We're already planning our next trip to New Braunfels and we're certainly not going to stay anywhere else. I have family living in New Braunfels & San Marcos. When we all get together, a number of us stay in hotels. We'll be using Rock St. Retreat in the future for our family get togethers. I would recommend it to all of my friends.

I look forward to many more fun stays at this location.

Review of Rock St Retreat.

In September 2007, our family had a small reunion at the Rock Street Retreat and absolutely loved the place. It was very quaint, clean and convenient.
Everything we were promised lived up to our expectations. We were within minutes of Gruene and New Braunfels as stated in the add. The patios outside and landscaping was beautiful.
I would definitely recommend the place to anyone and our family hopes to make the destination an annual event.
