Golf, Private Beach, Pools, Boat, Lakes: Shanty has something to offer for all the family. Championship golf courses that wind throughout the villages, tennis, disc 'frisbee' golf, mountain bike trails (rentals available) hiking (look for morel mushrooms when in season), family adventure days, outdoor movie theater, scavenger hunt, bonfires with story telling, indoor/outdoor pools, hot tubs, fitness spa free to guests. There are programs available for children with day camps and also licensed day care. Enjoy Shanty's private beach club on Lake Bellaire. It has a great sandy beach for swimming and the water is pristine. There are lounge chairs to relax, picnic tables, grills for cookouts, kids playground, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes...a great place to spend the day. There are day buoys for rent (advance reservation required). Public boat launch next to beach club.
Canoe, Horseback riding, Wineries: Shanty can arrange canoe/raft excursions thru Jordan Valley Outfitters. This year they are offering moonlight canoe rides down the Jordan River during the summer, with campfire at end of trip, at Lake Charlevoix. Horseback ride, hiking, fly fishing at Ranch Rudolph se of Traverse City. There are several wineries at Old Mission Peninsula. These are just some of the many activities the region has to offer.
Golfing: Shanty Creek Resort is one of the best in the Midwest with golfing availability for every level of golfer. Shanty Creek boasts several signature courses, including 'The Legend', an Arnold Palmer course, The Weiskopf Course at Cedar River, 'Hawkseye' and 'The Chief'. Plus, Schuss Mountain Golf Course has twice been voted the best public course in Michigan. Several awards have been given to the resort from popular golfing magazines. Prices reasonable.
Ski: Shanty Creek has downhill, cross country, tubing and snowboarding, so the entire family can ski to their heart's content. Over 50 ski runs, Shanty Creek is best known for its family appeal to all ages, with programs to teach the wee ones to ski from age 2 on up. Even racing lessons are available. Tubing is also very popular and Shanty Creek has 2 tubing runs, plus a new 'magic carpet' run for beginners at Schuss (gone is that cumbersome tow rope that is difficult to navigate for beginner skiers). Nightlife a plenty is also available at one or all of the villages along with dining for all price ranges.
