An Enchanting Experience
I stayed at this lovely home during April of 2010. A very new house, all of the appliances work splendidly, and a very large TV (which should honestly be off for the majority of your time spent in this exhilarating part of the world). Hardwood and tile floors, a fully equipped kitchen, and spacious porches and decks make the home a delightful place to stay.
The setting couldn't be better: The view of the ocean is stunning, the sea breeze is refreshing, and the hills are beautiful. Though very rocky, the beach is tranquil, and there's a private path to the water.
Filiatra, the nearest town, is a 30-minute walk or a 7-minute car ride away. It's charming, though it took this American some getting used to. Try the bread and pastries at the west side of the town square—they’re delicious and inexpensive. There’s also a monastery overlooking the city, complete with picnic tables, that makes for a wonderful hike/walk.
I heartily recommend a rental vehicle, as most tourist destinations are at least 30 minutes distant. Pylos and Gialova are the nearest and, I my opinion, the most beautiful. I could have spent a week exploring these two cities, the beaches they sit upon, and the rugged peninsula that juts southward into the Adriatic. Gialova is home to one of the most famous beaches in Greece, a stunning semi-circle of aqua, almost completely vacant in April.
During our stay, we visited Sparta, Olympia, Pylos, Methoni, Tripoli, Kalamata, Gialova, Kyparissia, Dimitsana, and Karitena. We traveled to a few of these cities twice. Altogether, we spent roughly 130 Euros on fuel, and never felt rushed. I say this to illustrate that Peloponnese is a small place, and this lovely home is nestled right in the midst of everything worth seeing.
In summary, whether the purpose of your vacation is to settle down in the most relaxing of places, or to explore this enchanting part of the world, I highly recommend this rental.
