Very simple, rustic cedar cottage is very quaintly decorated and has all of the 'comforts of home,' including a washer/dryer, range, and dishwasher. Living room/dining/kitchen area with Franklin stove. House has a very private location with a large deck, which is ideal for bird and boat watching. The cottage overlooks the marsh (where blue heron and egrets fish) and the ocean, where you can watch the boats cross. View is spectacular. Cottage is simple, cute, and immaculate. It is within a short driving distance to many fine restaurants, Acadia National Park, and Bar Harbor. Cottage is located on Mount Desert Island. The nearby town of Southwest Harbor has a library with wireless Internet access, a post office, banks with ATM machines, medical centers, a wine & cheese shop, hardware store, specialty market, grocery store, drug store, many restaurants, an ice cream shop, and other fine shops. Gas station/convenience stores are within a 3 miles. Approximately 25 miles to Ellsworth.

Located in Bernard, near Bass Harbor lighthouse, Southwest Harbor, and Bar Harbor, all on beautiful Mount Desert Island, which is home to Acadia National Park. Great hiking trails and carriage roads throughout the park lead to breathtaking, sweeping vistas. Park has many beautiful ponds for swimming. Looking down the driveway, Mariner's Crossing cottage appears to be in the woods, but, upon peering around to the other side of the house, one sees a dazzling, panoramic view of a salt water marsh (where blue heron and egrets fish) and the rocky coastline, which is dotted with sailboats. The Swans Island Ferry will delight you as it crosses the open ocean in front of the cottage several times a day. Property is adjacent to Back Beach, and walking distance from Thurston's Lobster Pound, the town dock, the library, post office, and antique and book stores. 'Island Explorer' bus, a free, natural-gas bus that runs over the whole island, stops just up the road. Quiet, serene, restful location.

Private setting on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. Short walk to rocky beach. Rustic cottage in generally good condition, some problems with sliders (fogged) and screens (jammed). Great starting off point for seeing the area.
