Hello. I'm a Jungian psychologist in private practice for the past 25 years who works alongside a wonderful therapy dog, named Remi.
I'm a sculptor, avid gardener, inspired cook, and lover of nature. I've nurtured this property and created a beautiful garden setting amidst 100 year oaks, a seasonal stream, and professionally landscaped gardens on one acre of land.
Besides this property and its beauty and serenity, my passion has been traveling the world. I love to welcome travelers to my space just as I have been graciously welcomed by so many others around the globe.
Elliot Martin purchased this studio in 1985
I've chosen to live in Topanga for the past 28 years and have chosen to share my love of this incredible site and community with others creating vacation location where I am fortunate enough and blessed to live.
The quiet and tranquility of my property offer a respite from the over stimulation and stress of everyday life.
The animals that come by offer moments of revery and reflection from the owls and red tailed hawks to the coyotes and deer. The live oaks offer a glimpse of magnificence and solidity often missing as we dash about in our multitasking work lives.
The adjacent park lands offer 5ooo acres of hiking and mountain biking or horseback riding trails to expand your horizons and let your spirits soar.
The small village of Topanga that is walking distance from the property offers Yoga, restaurants, a Shakespearian Theater, coffee shops, and unique shopping while being down home friendly and intimate as a community filled with a mix artists, actors, musicians entrepreneurs, and professionals.
Really lovely studio apartment! Excellent facilities and location with gorgeous gardens and delightful hosts. Great local coffee shops, very close to the beautiful Topanga beach and just short drives to Santa Monica, Malibu and the San Bernadino Valley. Fantastic scenery driving up and down the winding canyon roads as well as on all the nearby hiking trails. Tucked away in a beautiful oak grove with a charming forest of bonsai trees on the patio, it is an ideal spot for anyone looking to unwind and take in a bit of nature without being far from the city.
Great location near town, hiking and the coast! My husband and I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and had a great time. There are many great hikes nearby and the town of Topanga is a very short drive away. Topanga is a quiet, artsy little town and even waking around the neighborhood was fun.
The kitchenette was great for preparing meals and has 2 burners, a microwave, small fridge, coffee pot etc. I hope to return soon.
Listing was accurately described, neat, clean, and no unpleasant odors. Plenty of kitchen essentials to help out with a light meal. Professionally managed and met all of our expectations. A good value. My wife and I stayed four nights and I wouldn't hesitate to return and use the suite for our base of operations.
Peaceful. Calm. Beautiful! Elliot & Barbara have created a gorgeous mountain escape. Just what the Dr. ordered to escape the chaotic LA 4th of July holiday weekend!
We booked our stay in part to help our 2 dogs feel safe from the loud fireworks near our home in the South Bay. We also were seeking a place to disconnect, be with nature & unwind. This inviting rental hit the trifecta.
Well decorated & clean, this cozy retreat was a like a warm hug. Elliot was extremely prompt in all communication and was helpful with any questions I had. Both he and Barbara generously gave us all the privacy & space one could ask for (they live above the property). They have a very sweet pup Remi who roams the property. The Bonzai trees are unique & fun to enjoy - the entire property has gorgeous landscaping!
Inside is everything for a weekend escape including; extra-soft towels & comfortable bedding and a relaxing chair with footstool to enjoy your favorite read. A quite place for writers too.
The gracious hosts include a washer/dryer onsite, which allowed us to essentially "pick up and go" to enjoy our stay. We were so appreciative of this added value, we left a box of laundry supplies behind for the next guest to enjoy. Doing laundry in scenic beauty is much more fun than doing it at home. : )
One of my favorite parts of our stay was a long walk each AM & PM with thru the winding neighborhood roads. Breath-taking views with lovely trees shading much of the trail. So many fun & unexpected homes & surprises along the way.
We had a ball visiting the famous Grilled Cheese Truck that rolled thru town & enjoyed a drink on the deck at Froggie's while exploring this quaint town.
The only thing that kept this lovely vacation rental from receiving 5 stars is we were looking for something a bit more secluded (our personal preference - only because we live in a high density area in the South Bay). There were also landscapers working outside for a couple hours 2 days of our stay. While the landscapers were respectful, it did take away from some of the serenity to hear a leaf blower, digging, etc. That begin said, a tree had fallen before we arrived, so I believe one of the days they were there to clean it up (which is understandable). To maintain such an inspiring landscape, I can respect & understand it takes regular upkeep. However, beyond our personal preference about a more secluded location - the service, charm, location, etc. is a winner!
We stayed here for 4 nights. We wanted a place away from the LA hubbub while visiting relatives in Santa Monica. This was perfect. We enjoyed each morning out on the patio surrounded by beautiful landscaping, very old oaks, birds, butterflies and bonsai, yet only 4 miles to a mega metropolis. After enjoying each morning we made our trek into the city for a full day of activities.
Just left, having spent 10 days in Topanga. Purpose of trip was to do some bicycling in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The apartment was perfect. Well equipped for a studio, I was able to cook breakfasts and dinners. Pretty quiet, you're well back from roads, etc, so the Birds will be the ones waking you up in the morning. Hot powerful shower (always important to me).
10minute drive to the major beach hotspots (Gladstones, Moonshadows, Dukes). Walking distance into Topanga for local restaurants and a 2 minute drive to Froggys.
Didn't get to hike, but the trail entrances are within walking distance of the front door.
If I return to Malibu I'll definitely look at booking again, possibly in the new cabin being built.
Note to cyclists: Topanga is about a 7km climb up from PCH. You also have a 2-3km climb if you come from the Valley Side. So plan your routes accordingly.
Built in kitchenette, off-street parking for one vehicle, use of laundry, a seasonal creek with ancient live oaks, 550 square foot guest bedroom studio suite, a built-in seating banquette, an exquisite book case with recessed dramatic lighting.
