Best of Both Worlds

The cottage is on the edge of a forest and Lake Michigan in a private subdivision. We saw several deer and a wild turkey - and there were lots of birds singing! We took daily walks along the road.
The beach was sandy, very few if any rocks. Loved having the paddle boat, picnic table, and chairs to use at the beach.
I don't know which we enjoyed more - the beach or the forest.
The cottage was very clean, well-maintained, and nicely decorated - it truly felt like a beach house. The photo's and description were accurate. The beds were very comfortable - and it was nice to have a washer and dryer on site. We spent a lot of time on the second floor balcony - it was a beautiful view. We appreciated having the gas grill - we cooked on it daily.
Our only surprise was seeing how steep the driveway was in person. The owner told us it was steep but I just didn't think it would be as steep as it was. We chose not to use the driveway and parked in front of the cottage - which meant we got alot of exercise going up and down the 65 steps to the cottage.
The owner responded to inquiries promptly. The security deposit was returned within a week of our departure.
Future renters may want to know that alcohol isn't sold on Sundays in this county - which could be a disappointment if you arrived on Saturday planning to shop on Sunday.
I would love to return to Shoestring Cottage someday as it was a wonderful 10th wedding anniversay vacation!
