Our Kona Home Away From Home

My husband and I had a wonderful time at the Kona Makai. The unit was clean, comfortable and in a great location. The bed in the Master was extremely comfortable and the balcony was everything and more than what was reflected in the photograph on the Home Away site. The best thing about the Kona Makai is its location. The condo is a 15 minute walk to downtown Kona and it was wonderful to walk into town for meals and for the wonderful shopping in downtown Kona. The unit is also a very easy drive to the Harbor for snorkeling, fishing and whale watching trips and is an easy half hour drive from the Kona Airport. The pool, hot tub and grounds are very clean and very lush and there is a wonderful patio right on the ocean where you can sit and watch the whales and dolphins pass by. We also found the most amazing snorkeling nearby at Kahalu'u Beach Park. It truly was like swimming in an aquarium. The Kona Makai really is more for adults as there are no flotation devices or games allowed in the pool and no play areas in the complex. I would say 50% of the residents in the complex are retirees who live there fulltime. Because Anita's unit has the loft with a queen bed, the unit could be a perfect place for that "girlfriend" vacation. Anita is terrific to work with and making our reservations was easy and worry-free. The condo is located in an area where there are more condos and very few hotels and resorts (unlike farther south on the island) but we really liked that about this unit. Downtown Kona had lots of different places to eat for both breakfast and dinner, all within walking distance! There is also plenty of shopping and interesting things to wander and see. We would definitely stay not only in the condo again, but in the Kona area. Our trip and our stay was everything a more then we hoped for.
