Nice little get away

We enjoyed this nice lake cottage on Lake Pentwater. It was a nice relaxing/quiet retreat high above Pentwater Lake. The cottage reminds me of the summer camps I went to when I was a teenager but much better. The location on Pentwater Lake is on a portion of the lake called Bayou Bay. The cottage is at the end of a bay which makes the location very protected. It has a nice dock for your own boat to be moored. If you bring your boat with, as we did, the location of the dock is well away from other boat traffic. This means your boat will have very little movement from the wake of other boats and any storms which could kick up the waves in other areas of the lake. If bringing a boat make sure you state that in your request to rent so dock space is available. Pentwater Lake also has very nice access to Lake Michigan, if your boat is large enough to take out on the big lake, via a large canal built by the US Corps of Engineers many years ago. There are a lot of very nice lake-going boats which come into the marina to moor for the evening, get something to eat, access the grocery store, or get fuel for their boats. The bay the cottage is located on also makes it very quiet at all times of the day. The views out the back of the cottage from the large windows or screened in porch are fantastic. Early mornings are the best views with the morning sunshine hitting the bay and hill across the bay and washing the area across from the cottage with sunshine. The only drawback I found with the cottage is the steps going up and down from the cottage to the back yard and dock area. There are 40 steps and they are steep. If you use your boat multiple times in a day, as we sometimes did, you will get your aerobic workout using these steps. ;-) While there were only three of us who visited, this cottage can sleep a number of people with two bedrooms with comfortable beds, multiple bunk beds, a pullout couch, a air large mattress, and a futon. One thing to note is Verizon cell service is very limited in the town and area surrounding Pentwater. For us it was a good thing. We were able to get away from it all. Also, there is no access to network TV but you have two TVs you can watch videos on. There is also a radio provided with a CD player to get local information as needed. As I said before, for us this was a good thing to get away from it all for a week, recharge our batteries, celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and spend time boating. ;-)
