PEACEFUL ISLAND GETAWAY - WALK TO THE BEACH, PRIVATE WOODED PROPERTY

We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood, the proximity to the beach and local stores, and the large fenced/private back yard which was great for our dogs, The house itself was "okay." It definitely needs some work, as the doors and windows are in rough shape and the laminate floor was a bit warped. But overall, it was clean and comfortable and the dogs seemed very relaxed and we all enjoyed the walks on the beach. The owner was pleasant to work with. Loved going to Southport nearby.

We have stayed on Oak Island before but we tried this place as it boasted a fenced in yard and was closer to the beach. We discovered upon arrival a For Sale sign in the front yard which might be why some things have been let go.

PROS:
House has 2 bedrooms with the loft being very separate from the bedroom downstairs.
Two bathrooms were adequate and lots of towels were available for guests.
5 minute walk to beach and beautiful weather spent every day on the beach.

CONS
Although the house has a large fenced in yard, there is almost no grass, lots of worrisome mushrooms growing all over the place and since it receives almost no direct sunlight, the mosquitos were horrendous. Both the people and the dogs got attacked by mosquitos whenever they went out back.
The kitchen is also understocked when it comes to basics. Pots but no lids, no sharp cutting knives, very few bowls that type of thing. It made making dinner at the cottage a challenge. No dishwasher.

Enjoyed this home very much. Very comfortable and peaceful. Property was clean and wonderful fenced in yard, bigger than we expected. Bought fresh fish from Haag and Sons for most evening meals. We enjoyed visiting nearby Southport numerous times - the spring festival was very nice. Loved the area, it was our second visit to Oak Island, can't wait to return.
