7 Melody Lane is a cozy, fully-equipped weekly rental cottage, suitable for two, and has access to Plum Island Basin, the Merrimac River and to the ocean, with easy access by boat, which can be beached within steps of the cottage. Plum Island Beach is a short five-minute walk along the Basin. Close to the Parker River Wildlife Refuge and charming Newburyport.
Dick’s Variety has groceries, newspapers, etc. It is about 1/2 mile from the cottage. On the way to Dick’s, you will pass Mr. Moe’s Liquor Store.
The Parker River Wildlife Refuge is 1mile, directly south. The Hellcat Swamp trail is highly recommended.
At the end of the Refuge road (about 6 miles in), is Sandy Point State Park. There is a good beach and free parking.
Capt. George’s Fishing Parties is at the end of Northern Blvd. 1/2 and full-day trips are fun, whether or not you fish (plus, they have booze-cruises).
It's Mad Martha's for breakfast, and the Plum Island Grille is the place for dinner.
Cottage is small but well appointed and well laid out. I was disappointed that the skylights and window could not be opened. That being said, the A/C (a bit loud) and ceiling fan kept the inside comfortable for sleeping. Spent time on the beach, did a kayaking tour with Plum Island Kayaking, enjoyed beautiful weather. I would recommend this cottage for a single or couple who wish to spend time on PI.
The description of this cottage rental exactly suited my requirements--a clean, quiet atmosphere, beauty, nearness to ocean and salt marshes, quality furnishings, comfort, modern functionality, plenty of light, simplicity, and a stylish decor. I was not disappointed. In fact, to name but one outstanding feature, the contrast between the cosy, contemporary economy of the downstairs and the spacious, light-filled bedroom at the top of the spiral stairs, was magical. The deck, too, with its excellent grill (even I could work it!) and comfortable seating overlooking wild grasses and beautiful Plum Island riverside homes, was handy to the kitchen, and often drenched with sun.
I went alone to read and write, and found this cottage the perfect environment for that. I loved the corny mockingbirds and the calls of shorebirds, and found myself slowing down, enjoying bike rides to the Wildlife Preserve or walks on the beach in the sweet air. The owners were very helpful and unobtrusive, and fun. The few neighbors I met were friendly and helpful too. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Didn't want it to end.
jim and i stayed there and had a wonderful time. the house is perfect!! it is so cute and cozy...we loved it. felt very comfortable there and rocky and erich are wonderful. we cannot wait till next year to c the house and them again....
This cozy cottage was super clean, well equipped, and in a great location. The owners obviously take great care to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. Plum Island/Newburyport itself is an active area - lots of good restaurants, shopping, beautiful beaches and birdwatching...My husband and I definitely recommend this!
My daughter and I spent the week in Plum Island. The cottage was absolutely beautiful. We went on a week that rained more than it was sunny. Because of that we spent more time at the cottage than normal, but that was ok, we really had a nice time. It was so cute, clean and just enough space for two people.
Rocky, Erich and Cleo are very nice people (and dog), kept to themselves but nice to know they were there if needed.
We highly recommend it and hope to stay next year if we go up.
This is a very charming and tastefully decorated little cottage. Everything is new and clean. It is locatedd in a quiet neighborhood a few blocks off the main drag. The owners are lovely; they live next door, are friendly and accomodating, but in no way meddlesome. The beach is a few minute's walk or bicycle ride from the cottage.
Plum Island is located at the mouth of the Merrimac River. The area is connected to the mainland by a causeway that crosses The Great Salt Marsh, scenic and rich with wildlife, especially birds. Fishing and boating are two of the many activities available, with whale watching and party boat fishing available all summer from Plum Island Point. Newburyport is an historic Federalist city within 4 miles and offers a multitude of dining and shopping alternatives. The city has outdoor concerts and street fairs most summer weekends. Boston, Portsmouth, and Portland are also within easy day-trip range. Did we forget Rockport, Glocester, Salem, Essex, and Ipswich?
