We BOAST the BEST WATERFRONT on Lake Lure ... Perfect for water lovers and water watchers. Our beautiful, newly constructed, boat house includes a big dock for rocking chairs both in or out of the sun... We have a water level dock that allows you to dangle your feet in the water just to get cooled down.
For a full swim, our wide steps allow you to slowly enter the water.....or you can be adventursome and jump or dive off the end of each of our swim docks or really get out there by jumping off the top of our double slotted boat house.... Quite a thrill... No one has ever touched bottom by jumping off the top of our boat house.
For sun lovers, bring your sunscreen cause our boat house deck is huge and gets full sun all day.... but when you get hot, all you have to do is jump off the top for a quick cool down. We supply ski belts, just to be safe... also blue rubberized floats and a peddle paddle boat for seeing the lake.
For shade lovers, rock comfortably on our shade screened lakefront porch or sit on our outside fully shaded patio with hammock. You can still see all the action on the lake. In fact all of the rooms in our cottage have a beautiful view of Rumbling Bald Mountain and the lake.
So we are nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachian Chain, on the crystal clear, emerald waters of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world (National Geographic 1954), our lake front cottage's perfect location allows for active as well as 'laid back' vacationers during all seasons. With three, 18 hole golf courses in a three mile radius, municipal tennis courts, horseback riding, sight seeing, shopping, water sports, and wonderful restaurants within in a 20 minute drive, our guests can play till they drop.
Swimming, skiing, and floating the lake's currents are wonderful activities May through September, after which you will need a wet-suit and a warm wood fire blazing in our fireplace. Be certain to bring hot chocolate! But most of all ENJOY IT ALL!
Our cottage has 4 bedrooms..on the upper level there is a bedroom with a king and queen bed, and a second bedroom with a double. There is a bath room on the upper level. On the main level there is a bath and a bedroom with a king bed and a single bed. Our family needed a place to relax and unwind, and we found it here! This house was a great mix of conveniences and comfort, so we felt at home enough to put up our feet and enjoy the views and each other's company. This unpretentious cottage welcomed us with open arms, with its cleanliness and its character. The moumtain and lake views available from every window added to the pleasure of our stay - and we will be back!
We slept in every morning so didn't see the ghost, but if there is one, it must be a friendly spirit because the home was filled with good vibes!
Our family just completed a week at the Allen Cottage. We found the cottage and its amenities to be exactly as advertised. The cottage was very cozy and comfortable with ample places to relax as you would wish for. The large deck is perfect for sunning, sitting in the shaded side, or just watching the boats going by all day. The swimming area is safe and deep, ample floats, life jackets were available. The location was on a side road with little to no traffic to take away from the beauty of the lake. We found the cottage to be very clean with everything we needed to prepare great meals. We would definitely return if the opportunity arises. Thank you to the responsive owners.
Close your eyes for just a moment and imagine you are on vacation on the shores of a beautiful lake nestled in the mountains of western North Carolina. Do you feel the cool breeze blowing through the trees? Do you see the sun shining on the water? Do you smell hamburgers on the grill? Do you hear the laughter of children playing? Do you sense the tug of a fish on the other end of your line? Do you feel the refreshment of swimming in a mountain lake? Do you see a view of the mountains and the lake that is so magnificent it doesn’t seem real?
If you can visualize any of these things, you will catch a glimpse of the unforgettable memories on our vacation at Lake Lure, N.C. May 10-17, 2014. This charming vacation home on the waterfront of Lake Lure has everything you need to enjoy memories that will last a lifetime. You will feel like you are at home the minute you walk through the door. This 4-bedroom home includes extra beds on the porch and in the living area; this vacation retreat could easily accommodate 3 families. There is a 1,000+ square foot deck on the water that is perfect for spending time with your family and friends and enjoying a view that you will not believe. There is a hammock, outside dining area, fire pit, grill, screened porch, and boat house with a canoe and paddleboat that can be used by guests.
Chimney Rock State Park is only a few miles away and offers breathtaking views. Pontoon boat tours, hiking trails, and all lake activities are favorite attractions for those who are enjoying Lake Lure. Local restaurants on the water offer delicious food and gorgeous views.
We live less than 30 miles away in Marion, N.C., and we were amazed at this hidden treasure in our own back yard. Our vacation included cookouts, pontoon boat tours of Lake Lure, swimming, fishing, jogging with our 3-year old yellow lab (she enjoyed the vacation more than anyone), a day at Chimney Rock State Park, enjoying some local restaurants on the water, and spending a lot of time on the deck treasuring the view and the fellowship with our family and friends.
Having traveled to over 25 states and 5 countries including several trips to Canada, we have seen some spectacular scenery in our lives, but none more beautiful than Lake Lure, N.C. We highly recommend the home for your next vacation and cannot wait to go back ourselves!
From the screen porch down to the deck on top of the boathouse, this is probably the best house we've stayed at on the lake. There were some minor things about the house itself that could use some improvement, but you're not there to hang out inside anyway. Jason (owner) was very easy to work with and my group will certainly look to stay here again in the future. Plenty of space, great outdoor area, and amazing waterfront!
I have been visiting Lake Lure since the early 80's. This year we decided to stay at this cottage because we had noticed it many times before from the water. I am very thankful that we gave it a chance. The owners response was very quick and very helpful.
During our stay we enjoyed many hours on top of the boat house watching the boats go by and the sun set over the mountains. I highly recommend this house! We plan to return and this will be my 1st call to reserve a great house with great memories.
We were looking for a place to relax and rest, and this was just right. The view was a feast with the remnants of fall color enhancing the beautiful mountain scenery, and we could enjoy it from several spots in and out of the house. This was not a fancy house, but it felt like home which suited us just fine! We want to make this one of our fall traditions, so we will be back.
The only good thing about this house when we rented it, for the cost, was the view.
In the contract, line item 8 states the house will be in pristine condition, but it wasn't.
I got there and the screen door had no handle. The kitchen counter had dried food stuck on it and stove burner had dried food in it. Crumbs and a dish were in the sink. We cleaned up for an hour before my sister and her sons arrived. Food was in the drapes above the trash can and it was beginning to mold. The interior was dirty in various places. I went to the bathroom and sat down to be stared at by a spider in its dusty web. I have been to a dozen VRBO homes and this home was dirty.
The more I went through the home, the more items popped up: Multiple light bulbs burned out throughout the home; the freezer leaked into the refrigerator so a bowl was there to catch the leak and the refrigerator was missing a door shelf; the bunk room window A/C did not work; the big bedroom upstairs has a nice flat screen TV but nowhere to plug it in and there are four wall mounted lights that are supposed to move, but they don't, and only one worked; in the smaller bedroom upstairs, the ceiling fan light would not turn off, so you could only use the ceiling fan with the light on, which did not help at night if you wanted air moving; the downstairs master bedroom had no A/C, so it got hot when you shut the door at night and light bulbs were missing; the handle to the toaster oven kept falling off, so we had to be very careful opening it; the screened in porch has several areas that are unsafe because of the screening and holes large enough for a dog to get out; many of the floats were either torn or leaked; there were several spots on the deck, both the large one and down by the water, that had holes in the wood or were loose and it needs painting.
On Saturday, the day we arrived, the owner brought her friend by to visit the house and walked in. I don't have a problem if the owner wants to make sure everything is OK, but to bring a friend by to show her the house?
The saving grace of the house was the view. The pictures of the house do not reflect how old the house is. This house is dated. I would not recommend this house to any of my friends for the amount of money that was charged.
After the stay, the manager said things could have been easily fixed. It should have been pristine as stated. Wanted the review removed for reimbursing the cleaning fee.
