This beautiful stone house called the Gold Mine Lodge is appropriately named as it has an old gold mine on the property. You will be pleasantly surprised with the decorative touch that is evident in every room and the use of timeless stone work inside and out. This house is no ordinary cabin in the woods. Sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee in the morning or in the evening after a day of site seeing is one of our guests favorite things to do as you can see the beauty of nature all around you. This 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom house provides plenty of room for an extended family or a lovely place for a romantic get-away for 2. It is just 4 and a half miles from Hill City and just minutes away from most of the attractions of the Black Hill area like Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Custer State Park and more.

Hill City made its beginning in 1876 when gold deposits were found in the streams in the area. Modern day Hill City survives mainly on the logging of timber, ranching and being a tourist destination. This mountain town is in the middle of the Black Hills region. The Black Hills area offers an array of tourist sites and activities for everyone. Of course, some of the biggest sites are Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, and several state parks with plenty of wildlife to see. There are activities like scenic drives, hiking, swimming, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and rock climbing to mention a few. There are museums, art galleries, gift and antique shops, restaurants and plenty of unique vacation homes, bed & breakfasts and motels.

This lodge was absolutely perfect. It's even better than the photographs in the listing. The house was spotless, the kitchen very well-equipped and the surrounding scenery was beautiful --- no matter what window you looked out of.

We were traveling on motorcycles so the laundry room was well used while we were there.

The layout worked well for our group. Everybody had enough privacy and enough personal space with the bedroom and bathroom locations as they are. If you needed a little solitude, it was available. Likewise, the dining room table and the table on the deck were great gathering spaces for breakfast, talking about that day and making plans for the next day.

The owners have done everything possible to make this lodge comfortable and welcoming. And they were available for questions and recommendations on places to eat and beautiful roads to tour.

I can recommend this lodge with no reservations. In fact, our entire group wants to go back next year and stay in the same place AND take more folks with us. AND we are anxious to get there.
