The Rainforest Cottage is located in Historic Downtown Juneau, in the heart of Alaska's Tongass National Forest. With two separate 2-bedroom apartments, this property is perfect for couples, families, and groups of up to 10 people. Both apartments are fully furnished, equipped, and wireless connected.

Local Southeast Alaska owners, Sarah and Matthew, have attempted to anticipate the needs of independent travelers in their renovation and furnishing of this 100 year old home. They offer discounts for Alaskans, guests staying more than 3 nights or extended periods, and for those arriving by the Alaska Marine Highway ferries.

Sarah manages the apartments and lives only 3 blocks away. She is a Cooperative Extension Agent for the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension office in Juneau. She has lived in Juneau for 40 years and loves living in Juneau and Southeast Alaska. She has lots of knowledge about other communities in Southeast, as well, and loves to promote 'off-the-tourist-track' destinations.

The Basin Road neighborhood is one of the oldest in Juneau, its homes originally built to house workers and managers of the gold mines in the surrounding mountains. Today, the area is loved by locals as the best daily connection with the outdoors, with anything from leisurely walks to back-country running and world-class hiking... truly just around the corner from the Rainforest Cottage.

My family and I have travelled the world and our stay in the Fiddlehead apartment for one very short, but very memorable week before moving 'upstream' to Skagway, has to be one of our favorite trips! The apartment was very comfortable, and very well equipped. Most importantly perhaps, very clean! Sarah (the owner) was very accessible and exceptionally helpful, giving lots of great advice and suggestions for places to visit, and the best fishing spots!

The overall experience of staying in Juneau at the Rainforest Cottage and bringing home the daily catch for dinner, will live in our memories for years to come! By the way, Alaska has some great coffee! Who knew?!
