The Rainforest Cottage is comfortable and conveniently located to get to see all Juneau has to offer. Melissa and Matthew have been in business with the Rainforest Cottage for over 7 years, are well-established and responsive to guest inquiries and needs.
The Basin Road neighborhood is one of the oldest in Juneau, its homes originally built to house workers and managers of the gold mines in the surrounding mountains. Today, the area is loved by locals as the best daily connection with the outdoors, with anything from leisurely walks to back-country running and world-class hiking... truly just around the corner from the Rainforest Cottage.
Gold mine museum was a short walk up the hill, and well worth the trip. House was great for us. It was older, clean, and very comfortable with a great view. Getting up the hill is a challenging hike. The owner was very helpful.
Located near downtown Juneau, this Condo/apartment is a nice place to spend in few days in the capital. The fiddlehead apartment is part of a two-story house shared with the Forest canopy. The street is quiet except for a few hikers walking up and down the street in order to climb Mount Roberts. It seems like the soundproofing was more the decent. We only heard a few cracks coming from the people upstairs walking but nothing disturbing.
The house features everything you’d need to have a good time. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom is perfectly clean and the bedrooms features comfortable beds. It also offers free and fast Wi-Fi throughout the house.
However, I noticed two things that could have made make our stay even better. First the TV only offers 18 channels. We had a wonderful weather during our stay, so we didn’t spend much time watching TV. But this scarce choice of channels could be a problem when the weather is rainy for a long period of time.
The second thing is both easy to solve and very disturbing. There were no curtains in the living room during our stay, which meant that people walking down the street couldn’t help but stare inside the house.
We had a nice stay in the Fiddlehead apartment and I would definitely recommend it.
My family and I have travelled the world and our stay in the Fiddlehead apartment for one very short, but very memorable week before moving 'upstream' to Skagway, has to be one of our favorite trips! The apartment was very comfortable, and very well equipped. Most importantly perhaps, very clean! Sarah (the owner) was very accessible and exceptionally helpful, giving lots of great advice and suggestions for places to visit, and the best fishing spots!
The overall experience of staying in Juneau at the Rainforest Cottage and bringing home the daily catch for dinner, will live in our memories for years to come! By the way, Alaska has some great coffee! Who knew?!
Many of the attractions listed (downtown shopping, museums, retaurants, attractions, tours, etc.) are within walking distance of the Rainforest Cottage, including hiking. But several of the best hiking, scenic walks/drives, and features are anywhere from 3-30 miles away, so a car is very nice to have if you're in Juneau for more than a few days. In the summer, bus & ocean (fishing and whale watching) tours leave from downtown Juneau regularly, though, so a car is not a necesity.
