In Long Island City, you will enjoy the delights of the new shops, a wine store, cafes, delis, coffee houses and bistros in the Hunters Point neighborhood, which is undergoing major restoration and gentrification. Walk along the waterfront at the end of the block to Gantry Park to get a magnificent view of the incomparable Manhattan skyline.
You will enjoy your stay at our home!
Freda & Doug Otto have owned this NY/LIC house since the early 80's. It was a 3 level flat - that was remodeled in 2008 to the beautiful house it is today. Doug and Freda spend as much time as they can in LIC. Doug loves books, maps and architecture. Freda loves to cook. You will see all of their personal touches though out the house.
The Owner purchased this house in 1981
This house was great for adult 3 couples (can sleep 8) and was a short 5 minute walk to the subway. From the subway you are 2 stops to Grand Central Station and one more and you'll be at Times Square - the hub of NYC. The house was very comfortable - could not ask for anything more. We stayed 3 nights and the LaGuardia airport was about a 20 minute ($20-$25) cab fare to the house. There are plenty of restaurants in the area and a store to pick up a few groceries if you like. This place was clean, had an amazing kitchen and the stereo system was wired throughout the entire house for use in the evening while relaxing! Nice touch that the owners left a binder of all the local restaurants, cabs, some tour info ect. Great place, amazing LIC location with easy access to Manhattan and all the sights NYC has to offer. Thank you Brenda!
Two couples went to play tourist in the big city. The couple from Long Beach, CA, had stayed her before, (which is how we found out about this house), and the two of us from Seattle, WA, (I have been to NYC and area many times, and my friend who had never been there). We met up at JFK, taxied in, and spent seven days running around NYC, Brooklyn, even out to the Cradle of Aviation Museum in some little town, a train ride away, and of coarse LI City itself. Great neighborhood, lots of different restaurants, easy access to subway into the city, and the house itself was perfect. I will try to use this same place next visit to the city.
For those thinking of getting a New York hotel room, think again. This beautifully-renovated New York home is exceptional in every way and perfect for those who wish to vacation together yet enjoy privacy when desired. Upon arrival we walked through the charming yard and up the steps into the entry, complete with coat rack, umbrellas, and even a bench for comfortably removing boots. To the right is a large open-concept space with high ceilings and tall windows allowing lots of natural light. The huge living room with tasteful and comfortable furniture, ambient lighting, and an extensive custom library. Adjoining is an new and expansive, well-stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances, modern cabinetry, a wine fridge, granite countertops, and the largest kitchen island ever. Each morning we loved sitting around it and planning our next adventure for the day while enjoying croissants from the bakery down the street. There's also a dining area, and one of three large bathrooms in the home is on this level. Upstairs is a spacious master bedroom with a very comfortable king bed and flat screen tv, a second large, updated bath, fully-stocked linen closets, and surprise--another large and beautifully-decorated living area, complete with built-in library, extensive work area with wifi and printer, comfortable couches, large flat-screen tv, and a circular table with chairs. Lastly, our teenage daughters discovered downstairs on level 1 what they immediately claimed as their apt. On this bottom floor there is a third living area with huge flatscreen, comfortable couch, an incredible leather chair large enough for two, a bathroom, a laundry room, mini-kitchen area, and two bedrooms! Our girls were in heaven! This part of the home even has a separate exterior entry if one chose to use it.
Another favorite part of the home is its location. The one time working area is giving rise to extensive renovations like this one. Here we got to experience the excitement of living in a real New York neighborhood of trendy restaurants, bakeries, neighborhood grocers, and even an urban Christmas tree lot. The subway is so convenient--just five minutes' walk away. The owners have spared no expense in making this an inviting place to "come home to" after exploring Manhattan. Attention has been paid to every detail and possible guest need. We are so happy to have had the opportunity to stay here. Many thanks!
Four of us spent 4 days in New York CIty following a New England Cruise. THis home was the perfect spot for us! Great location just outside of the busy New York CIty streets, and yet so close. 10 minutes with subway to Time Square!! A 5 min walk to the subway from the home.
The home offered great accommadations; beautiful kitchen, living area, bedrooms, 3 bathrooms with an outdoor patio.
Safe neighborhood with a good variety of reasonable restaurants, grocery store, boardwalk along the East river, and easy access to the city!!
Much, much better than any hotel could offer!!
We'll be back!
We stayed at this house four nights in September to attend my daughter's wedding. The wedding venue, The Foundry, was five minutes away in Long Island City. Our experience could not have been better!
There were six of us staying so the three bedrooms worked out great. The location was terrific and the pictures are accurate but really don't the house justice. It was far more spacious than I expected. The property was very clean, well maintained with a fabulous kitchen. One of surprises was the property layout relative to the street. The house is set back about 50 to 80 feet from the street making it very private and quiet. There is a courtyard in front that would be excellent for small parties in good weather. The main floor is also great for entertaining. If you have issues with stairs note that the bedrooms are above and below the main floor.
Another accurate description is proximity to the city. You are four or five blocks from the Vernon Blvd Subway stop (#7 train), one stop across the river from Grand Central Terminal, two from Bryant Park, in the center of Midtown. Access to anywhere in Queens and Brooklyn is excellent and very close.
You would never need to leave the neighborhood for good restaurants, delis, casual restaurants, diners, a coal fired pizza place (Bella Via), great bars, a very nice grocery store, and a high end wine and spirits store. All of these are within walking distance in a neighborhood that seemed safe to walk around in after dark. It has the feel of a very nice, diverse neighborhood without being over-the-top hipster.
If you drive, there is plenty of street parking but you will drive around in the evening and late afternoon to find a spot. Parking was relatively easy for NYC. There is a garage that is walking distance that I didn't use but is a fraction of the cost of a garage in Manhattan. I parked on the street for 5 days and didn't get a ticket; a new personal best for NYC!
I will recommend this to friends and will stay there anytime we are with at least one other couple. You can't get a hotel anywhere near as nice for this price if you split it with another couple. And, like Manhattan, you can park your car and use public transportation for all your sightseeing. There's even a ferry within walking distance of the house to take you to across to Manhattan or down the river to Brooklyn.
The management was very flexible and easy to work with and answered questions promptly.
This is truly a home away from home in NYC.
This home is perfect for two couples. Lots of room with 3 floors. A short walk to the subway and a short walk to the beautiful park with the best views of Manhattan. There are lots of books and maps in the house . A really nice grocery store around the corner with lots of good fresh produce. A really good Thai Resturant called Tuk Tuk just a short walk from the house. A very safe neighborhood. Don't be afraid to go out at night. The house is very quiet inside even with some construction close by. The house feels like a home and not a stuffy hotel room. We rent lots of vacation rentals and this one is one of the best ! You won't be dissappointed ! We will be back !!
