scene has taken an exhilarating turn in recent years, garnering
worldwide attention for its meld of enriched classical institutions
and innovative new venues, with an influx of young creatives to feed
them all.
Whether in Portland’s official Cultural District downtown, a
transfigured warehouse in the trendy Pearl District, or an emerging
neighborhood on the east side, Portland offers opportunities to
simply dabble, or to fully immerse yourself in the best of Northwest
arts and heritage.
Artists Repertory Theatre -Artists Rep, Portland’s oldest
professional theater company, presents regional premieres,
commissioned works and selected classics in an intimate environment.
Portland Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA)-PCPA, recognized as
one of the top 10 performing arts centers in the nation.
Spectator Sports:
A little old-fashioned competition never hurt
anyone, right? Portland hosts a multitude of exciting sports teams
and events, including NBA basketball, pre-NHL hockey, minor league
baseball and A-League soccer.
The ultra-modern Rose Garden arena is home to the NBA's Portland
Trail Blazers and the Portland Winter Hawks hockey team, the
Portland LumberJax indoor lacrosse team, as well as countless
concerts and special events.
Visitors can also cheer alongside Portland’s loyal and enthusiastic
sports fans at historic PGE Park, whose recent renovation added
state-of-the-art amenities without sacrificing the stadium’s elegant
1926 design. PGE Park is home to Triple-A baseball’s Portland
Beavers, an affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The A-League Portland
Timbers’ soccer games are also played here.
Speed is the name of the game for fans at Portland International
Raceway; the track's season is highlighted by G.I. Joe's Presents
Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland
Get Outside and Play:
Golf Digest has rated two of Portland’s courses – Eastmoreland Golf
Course and Heron Lakes Golf Course – among the nation’s top 75
public courses. Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club has hosted the 2003 U.S.
Women's Open, while The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club hosts the Jeld-
Wen Tradition, the fifth and final major championship on the
Champions Tour.
An easy way to see Portland is on two wheels. Good choice, according
to Bicycling magazine, which recently ranked Portland the United
States’ top cycling city two years running. For bicycle rentals,
visit Fat Tire Farm.
Long recognized as a fisherman’s haven, the Pacific Northwest is
rich with steelhead, trout and sturgeon. Here, when locals brag of
catching a 30-pound sturgeon...chances are, they’re not fibbing.
Enjoy watersports to the max… The Gorge area is renowned for its
windsurfing, kiteboarding, kayaking, river rafting
