The Sunday House - a Close in, Secluded SoCo Retreat

I recently moved to Austin with only the stuff that would fit in my car, and needed a place to stay for a few months while getting settled in. I didn't want to do the hotel thing--I wanted to find a spot where I could feel at home and explore this fascinating city like a local--not a tourist. The Sunday House was the perfect place to call home during my first two months in Austin.

The neighborhood (Travis Heights) is fantastic. It’s quiet, packed with character, and shaded by massive live oaks, but is only a short walk to South Congress and a quick bike ride to downtown.

The place itself is a gem. Tucked behind a beautiful historic home, the adorable, one-bedroom cottage features massive windows, hardwood floors and a claw-foot tub. The fully-furnished kitchen had everything I needed, and a breakfast room made for the perfect home-office. The bedroom features a good-sized closet, plenty of storage space and a very comfortable bed. A super comfy sofa, wi-fi and cable are available, but with so much to do in Austin, you probably won't use these amenities often. The place is immaculate, incredibly comfortable, and instantly welcoming.

Jimi (the owner,) his family and Buster the wonder dog were incredibly kind and welcoming, and made me feel at home from day one. The only problem was that I didn't want to leave. It really is the perfect spot and helped make my first two months in Austin absolutely awesome. Skip the sterile hotel or the generic rental. The Sunday House offers everything that makes Austin so incredible—incredibly friendly people, character, comfort and plenty of Texas charm.

Quiet relaxing period home with gardens, but just a few minutes' walk from the clubs and amenities of SoCo; and well positioned for Downtown and parks. The property fits the description, is clean and well maintained. The owner is nearby, discrete, and helpful. Perfect for 2 (as we were),or related persons if more, as the bathroom is accessed through the main bedroom. Would recommend. Loved Austin's way of life, KGSR radio, Continental and Cactus Clubs, Bugle Boy Club in La Grange, LBJ Library, and Ladybird's Flower Center, the parks, the Capitol, and Mount Bonnell; Cheapo Records, Half Price Books; Whole Foods; Upper Crust Bakery, Gueros, Magnolia Café, Bakery on Balcones. ENJOY!

We enjoyed our stay at the Sunday House in Austin. Wonderful location within a few minutes of South Congress (SoCo) and the area's many shops and restaurants. The apartment provided an easy base for sightseeing within Austin -- via car or the city's Dillo and bus service -- and to the Texas Hill Country and San Antonio via car. The parking provided for the apartment was convenient and safe. The apartment was spacious for two people and had great AC! We can attest to the effectiveness of the AC as it was over 100 degrees every day during our one-week stay...and the AC always kept the apartment cool. The secure wireless internet (wifi) connection provided by the owner was a great benefit too as we had our laptop along and had no problem connecting. All in all, a great value and a wonderful place to stay while visiting Austin.
