Kahuku - Turtle Bay Vacation Rental townhome

First of all this is at Turtle Bay Resorts. You expect the Wow factor. Everyone who has heard of Turtle Bay says "Wow." Not so. Condo was not properly maintained. I walked through the door and instantly I am not impressed. I'm thinking "How much did we pay for this place?" I really wanted to cry. First thing we noticed when we walked through the door was the clutter of "stuff" from past tenants - e.g. magazine or travel brochures, junk. Working down to up: Downstairs bathroom had a urine smell. LR leather sofa had lots of wear/cracks and board slats moving around but there was a huge big screen TV; refrigerator had mildew and was dirty inside/out (Btw, fridge door was painted with a brush, real classy). Cooking utensils were melted, one very cheap pot and pan. Cooking range burner sitting upside down on top of range. There was a hodgepodge of plates/glasses/utensils. Planned on cooking maybe a few meals. Haha. Upstairs: Loft had one bed with worn mattress and popping springs. Fan in MB encrusted with layer of thick dust. Bedroom was large with outdated furniture pretty much flea market deco. Bed linen and comforter was dingy. Bathroom reeked of mildew & urine. Toilet had not been cleaned and was filthy. Small shower stall w/faulty rusted hardware. Very worn, dirty bathroom mats. 7 days of stink, no matter what I did to clean. Mgr wanted to know why we didn't call him and tell him all this. He related his own experience of a dirty place that he & wife stayed at, how he called the mgr and waited to get it cleaned. That didn't count. This was about my experience, not his. I didn't want to upset the family and argue w/ my husband who assured me that he spoke with mgr before the trip & everything was great. Right. I asked the mgr for compensation, which he didn't do. I even sent the mgr pictures and he tells me that "lots of people on the island have mildew, and no matter how much you clean you're not going to get rid of all the dust." Exactly what did we pay for anyway? He refunded our security deposit. We also paid a cleaning deposit and we ended up cleaning. His wife does the cleaning. Mgr told me that the owner will be doing updates to the furniture,etc. So, it took me to complain to have them realize that? Bottom line, we expected a real nice place and were disappointed. And it also shows that the manager isn't doing his job. What a shame. Could be a nice place if properly maintained. Nice area to stay.
