VERY PRIVATE, CHARMING AND QUIET BUT NEAR EVERYTHING

Lake Winnisquam Cottage Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms sleeps 8 plus

Very private cabin with a mile of private waterfront and 60 acres of nature on lake Winnisquam, NH and only 1 1/2 hours from Boston. On the grounds of historic Butternut Farm the cabin comes with a canoe, great views of the lake and mountains, excellent fishing, swimming, wildlife, fire pit, gas grill and all conveniences. It can be combined with 1 or 2 other cabins for larger gatherings or reunions. Only minutes from shopping and restaurants it offers the experience of privacy and nature the way we remember it as kids. We like to say it is 'close to everything but far from anything'.

FAMILY REUNIONS: We can accommodate 25 + persons when all 3 cabins are rented. The Ephraim Cabin, pictured here, is the normal gathering point with plenty of seating for everyone. When all 3 cabins are taken by the same group it includes 3 beaches, 2 docks, many trails, 3 canoes and paddleboat, swim float etc. etc.

Suitability:
  • Long-term Renters Welcome
  • children welcome
  • non smoking only
  • pets considered

About Steve Pearson

I'm a musician and I work with non-fiction publishers I also produce and host a Cambridge TV show. Though I maintain a home in Cambridge I spend most of my time in the Butternut Farm farmhouse in NH. One of my main goals has been to preserve the character of the Cove and to head off nearby threats of development etc. I love to share the Cove with others who enjoy it as much as I do.

Very private/peaceful area, on cove, not big lake

  • 4 of 5
Overall, I personally enjoyed the stay, is peaceful, close to everything but is not for people with boats or want to be in the mix of things on a big lake.

Positives:

-Very private area
-Paddle boat
-Canoe
-Swim dock
-Fairly warm water
-Fire pit
-Big property
-Near restaurants and the tilton outlets
-Good for families that want privacy but not for partiers or people who have a boat that wants to be on the big lake.

Not the best but still OK:

- It is not connected to Lake Winnisquam it is on the cove that is technically on the lake but split between small trees. There is a few trails to get through to the actual lake. However, the water is very calm and great for swimming and playing in the water. It is what the title says "Cabin on the cove".
-The largest Epham cabin that is shown in the pictures where the others is not is adjacent to the Emerson cabin but the Thoreau cabin is across the street
-It is not the cabins fault but there is a lot of bugs outside and no way to keep them out of the house
-The cabin is a cabin it could be updated but still in decent condition

My recommendation is to go drive if you know the location to check out the cabins or areas before you book! The owner Steve is a very nice guy too!

Owner's Response: A thoughtful and accurate commentary for a June rental. I would just like to say that we are connected by water to the main lake, and it is navigable by canoes and kayaks, but the big lake power boats and bass boats can't access the Cove (hence the quiet, our calm waters and big fish). Our guests, maybe 30% of whom rent a boat for a few days from Winnisquam Marine (or alternatively bring their own boat), keep it at our private Loon Beach power boat dock on the South Bay.

A world away in your own private sanctuary!

  • 5 of 5
My friends and family plan an annual trip to the Lakes region every year. I sorted through literally a hundred homeaway ads before deciding on this one. This was by far our best vacation yet and we will be returning for years to come. The cabin itself is quaint and charming and spacious enough for all our friends, family and dog! The trails are endless, the lake is beautiful and very private. The beach was a huge hit with our 4 year old and dog! The fishing was spectatcular and I myself caught 2 (which was my first time fishing ever).

When the weather was nice we had so much to do outdoors between the beach, paddle boating and canoeing. When it rained we went shopping at the nearby outlets and went to the nearby Weirs beach arcade for some pier family fun.
You will feel like you are a world away in your own private sanctuary, leaving was bittersweet!

And last but not least Stephen was a delight to meet and I can honestly say this would get a 6th star because of him!

Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Fantastic Summer Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
My family of 5 (+ 2 dogs) had a great time on the cove. It had everything we could ask for. The home was well equipped with all the necessities. The downstairs family room was great for the kids with a piano and foosball table. Outside shower overlooking the cove was awesome! We kayaked, swam, explored. Restaurants, antiquing, waterpark ~ all are nearby. We especially liked the privacy. It is truly the sweetest spot we have stayed at in New Hampshire. We have already booked again for next year. Thanks Steve! 5 stars!

FamFest 2010

  • 5 of 5
My family & I stayed at this cottage & we loved it! We are die-hard campers, so we could truly appreciate the "cabin" feel of this house. It was well-stocked with just about everything you could need, including a grill! There are many stores right down the street. The private cove was our favorite part... my family really enjoyed the swimming & fishing in the lake. Plus the canoes & paddle boat were awesome. The only thing I would mention is that you are in the woods, so there are plenty of bugs. As well as we had an extremely hot week, so if that is forecasted for you, bring fans. The house has tons of windows, so that helps alot as well. The owner is really nice & easy to work with. We can not wait to go back!

Great Private Retreat

  • 5 of 5
I stayed for a couple of days for a mini family reunion. As advertised, very private, yet close to everything! We enjoyed every minute stretching our legs exploring the nearby trails, canoeing and lots of swimming in our own private cove. It was special - we will be going back.

Weekend get-away

  • 5 of 5
Rented this place last September and had a great time. Secluded enough to enjoy yourself but close to everything if you need to venture out. Views of the lake were amazing. Nice fire pit where you can sit around for hours into the night. Coming back again in a couple weeks and I can't wait. I highly recommend this if you are seeking out a nice quiet retreat where you can kick back and relax and have a wonderful time.

We are 5 to 20 minutes close to every imaginable attraction from outlet shopping to theaters, thai, chinese, italian, lobster restaurants, sports bars, 18 hole golf courses, water parks, drive-in movie, arcades etc. This year Oscar winner Ernest Thompson, directed and acted in a great production of his 'On Golden Pond' only 10 minutes from us which everyone loved. We are only 3 miles by land or water from Winnisquam Marine where many of our guests have rented a power boat to keep at our deep water dock..We have walking trails on our property but mountain hiking is within 20/45 min. Canoeing/kayaking is popular in the cove where swimming too is great as there is no motorboat traffic Also popular is wildlife and bird watching (we have an osprey nest, fox with pups, wild turkeys, otters, fisher cats, beavers etc.). If you like fishing we have monster bass, pickerel, white and yellow perch, horned pout, etc. And the fire pit is a favorite attraction.
