Overview

Fairhope Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + sofa bed, 1 Bathroom. (2-3 adults or 2-4 with children)

Surprise Landing Cottage is in the quiet, secluded area south of Fairhope known as Battles Wharf.

We are located 1 mile north of Marriott's Grand Hotel and Lakewood's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course on Mobile Bay. Several other golf courses are nearby. We are a short drive to historic Mobile, the Battleship Alabama and the white sandy beaches of the Alabama Gulf coast.

The cottage is fully furnished and you would have use of our pier on beautiful Mobile Bay. Come and enjoy our spectacular sunsets.

There is a walking/biking trail practically at the back door and Fairhope's charming little shops are a short drive or bike away. The area is known for its many seafood restaurants on the Causeway and other local favorites nearby. Tanger's Outlet Center in Foley is a short 30 minute drive for great bargains and The Eastern Shore Center in Spanish Fort offers a huge variety of shopping and dining. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and retail shopping are a ten minute drive.

Fairhope's Arts and Crafts Festival takes place every spring and there are always local artists working in Fairhope. Mobile's Mardi Gras and Fairhope's own Mardi Gras celebrations attract many visitors who like our low-keyed style of celebrating. Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is a unique opportunity to learn about Coastal Alabama.

Whether you are looking for golfing, art, walking, biking, tennis, boating, fishing, crabbing, shopping, discovering coastal South Alabama or just plain relaxing, all are available for you to enjoy year round at Surprise Landing Cottage.

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the first week of October 2014 at Surprise Landing Cottage, and our stay was all we had anticipated and more. The site is beautiful with old trees, lovely bushes, flowers, and a spacious wharf (dock for many of us non eastern shore folks) with seating (both covered and in open) and a place to fish. The cottage is just right for a couple, and furnished nicely plus stocked with everything we needed upon arriving- no need to run to grocery right away for kleenex, garbage bags, paper towels, dish detergent, etc. There is even a large umbrella there for our use if needed. We entertained local friends who also thought it was a wonderful cottage with true old south ambiance that includes a furnished screened porch. The hosts, Deborah and Frank, who live in the main house are friendly and willing to help with any question or need. We will return!

Place of solitude

  • 5 of 5

What a little piece of heaven! We came to celebrate an early thanksgiving with our three small grandchildren. After a day of high energy it was a pleasure to come home to peace and quiet. The guest house was quaint and very clean, and it had all the amenities we needed. We had little contact with the owners, but what we did, we found them very helpful and delightful. We took advantage of the dock and beautiful surroundings. Definitely a place for a return visit.

Owner's Response: Thank you indeed, for your generous review. Over the years, we have found that potential guests frequently rely on Cottage reviews when deciding whether to book. We, therefore, appreciate it greatly when folks who have stayed here take the time to write about the experience. Your mentioning of contacts with us during your visit provides me with an opportunity to share our philosophy on this subject. We strive to hit just the right balance between trying to do everything possible to make folks feel at home and to be responsive to anything that is needed, while on the other hand, seeing that our guests' privacy and solitude are insured.

We'll Leave the Light On!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Deborah and Frank for offering this quiet and quite beautiful cottage! From our initial email communication to our arrival and departure, you were gracious. We attended a wedding in Fairhope at Saint Francis at the Point Church with a reception at the Marina and could not have been situated any better.........in the middle of the two venues.

The cottage was comfortable and clean and we truly hated to leave.

Frank recalled a conversation where we let him know I was from Missouri and attended Mizzou. After we returned home, Frank mailed to us a kind letter and inside was a Mizzou football momento he had come across from 1942!!! What a kind gesture and a souvenir I was so happy to add to my collection!

Thank you again Deborah and Frank and we so look forward to a return stay at Surprise Landing!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. We are lucky to be so conveniently located for folks needing to get around in our area. And we are blessed to have visitors who we can make feel welcome. I am delighted you liked the rather historic Mizzou pin; we kind of thought you would.

The perfect Surprise Landing!

  • 5 of 5

Frank and Deborah certainly know how to keep their guests coming back. I love clean and cozy, and my husband loves to fish. We were both very happy to find this little piece of heaven in Fairhope. The cottage has everything you could ever need for a comfortable stay. I packed coffee filters, laundry detergent, and Kleenex boxes, just in case, but everything was already there. There was even yummy cheese sticks and a bottle of wine on the table to welcome us. My husband caught a 23" Speckled Trout off the wharf, after a very heavy rain (didn't have anything to weigh the fish with), and that made the trip! Frank was elated. There is not a better place to stay in Fairhope. The owners are the nicest and most impressive couple. I only wish we could have had more time to get to know them better. We hope they have us again, the next time we visit Fairhope. Tim and Anna

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. You hit on two of our main themes. First, we are almost fanatic about presenting our guests with a, "white glove" clean property. Second, we both do have as good a time as they do, when our guests have an opportunity to really enjoy the water. On that note, I can tell you that your skill in landing those fine Speckled Trout you caught right off the pier has put a bunch of our local fisher folk (including me) to shame.

Connie and Charley

The cottage is well equipped, well maintained and very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the privilege of using the pier. Watching the birds and sunsets across the bay was a treat!

This is our fourth stay here and each time is as enjoyable as the last. Thanks Deborah and Frank.

Owner's Response: Thank you Connie and Charlie. It was good to have you back and fun to catch up on each other's news. We keep hoping you will find that perfect, irresistible spot down our way and become neighbors. Just keep thinking "Fairhope" when you have to get out the snow shovels.

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Surprise Landing cottage and the property that it is on are truly beautiful! The owners, Deborah and Frank, have supplied everything you need to have a restful, peaceful holiday. The cottage itself is outfitted in the most attractive way, and the high ceilings and tall French doors give it an added feeling of spaciousness, opening to the scenic outdoors. Their private pier was available for our use, and we were allowed to have family that we were visiting to spend time with us there. We will be very disappointed if we couldn't stay at this great place during our next visit to the lovely Fairhope area! Thank you, again, Deborah and Frank, for all that you do to make your guests feel so comfortable! Surprise Landing is really a very special treasure!
