Just Right for a Family of Four

MiamiMom Coral Gables, Fl
Review Submitted: August 24, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We just spent two weeks at this cabin, and even the teenager was happy! We loved the time we spent at the cottage. It is clean and modern, and yet very charming. You are in the middle of nature, but a very short walk to an excellent latte and wi-fi. There are excellent art galleries in Marshall as well as a wonderful used bookstore. The locals are so helpful and friendly, they really want you there. Be sure to checkout the free bluegrass concerts at the old train depot, local muscians playing at Zuma Coffee, and if you need advice about ANYTHING, talk to anyone working behind the counter at Goodstuff. They also have computers at Goodstuff and don't charge anything to use them or the internet. We enjoyed $40 hour long massages in Hot Springs, river rafting, and caught tons of trout at a local's pond. We also frequently ventured into Asheville to take in art galleries, The Biltmore (spend the extra $ and take the audio tour, highly worth it) theatre and great restaurants. I recommend Doc Chey's Noodle House. Don't miss La Zooms Comedy Bus Tour of Ashville. You'll learn a lot and laugh even more. Asheville has a very interesting and funny history. Asheville also has a fantastic art scene it's sort of a Santa Fe of the South.

We would venture out during the day, then come back to the cottage and enjoy cooking dinner in the well equipped kitchen, and then a soak in the hot tub before retiring to bed. There is no internet at the cabin, nor is there cell phone reception, but both are readily available with two minute walk. This was a fabulous reconnect for our family of four. Everyone had their own VERY comfortable bed and room, and yet we were closer than here at our own house because no one could disappear to be on the computer for hours, get lost watching extended cable channels, or texting the day/night away. We played cards and board games or picked a DVD to watch as a family every night.

The cabin is surrounded by natural beauty. We can't wait to return hopefully in autumn when the leaves turn.

Cedar Creek Escape

Review Submitted: September 24, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Great mountain vacation. Quiet, small, charming cottage in the friendly town of Marshall, NC. Suggest Zuma coffee shop, within walking distance from cottage and walking trail around the art center to start your morning off right. We had a blast whitewater rafting with USA raft on the French Broad, hiking Linevile Falls (beautiful waterfalls and river views) and Grandfather Mountain. Owners made everything very easy. Cottage was clean and well maintained. Loved relaxing in the jacuzzi at night. Would highly recommand.

Plus One

J+S Dayton, OH
Review Submitted: May 4, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
Cedar Creek Cabin was everything we expected and more! It is nestled on the side of a mountain, giving it a true getaway feel; however it is within walking distance of the rustic town of Marshall.

When we arrived at the cabin, lights were on welcoming us, and the kitchen table was filled with information specific to the cabin and sightseeing brochures for area attractions. My husband and I cooked meals each night of our stay. We found all of the pots, dishes and even forgotten spices that we needed. Appliances were clean and up-to-date. The layout of the cabin worked well for our family (my husband, our dog, and me) - we kept mostly to the first floor - however, we commented more than once about how easy it would be for us to come back with other couples. We were very impressed at how easily we divided our time between reading and talking in front of the fire to relaxing in the hot tub - perched on top of a rock. By our last afternoon, we found ourselves having such a good time, we decided to call the owners, asking if we could tack on another night. Thrilled to hear we were enjoying ourselves, they were very flexible in fulfilling our wishes.

During our stay, we visited Zuma coffee (downtown Marshall) each morning. We also spent some time hiking on the Appalachian Trail. One day, we took off to Asheville and visited the Biltmore Estate. Following our tour, we ate dinner at a very charming and reasonably priced Sushi bar.

We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to have an entirely relaxing getaway. Whether that means just reading and soaking in the hot tub or hiking and sightseeing, this property and its location has something for everyone. We look forward to our return.

Christmas Weekend Getaway

M. Walton Eastern NC
Review Submitted: January 31, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2007
Our family was pleasantly surprised to find this cute little mountain cabin nestled snugly in the quaint, 'art-sy' town of Marshall, NC. The cabin was super clean and surpassed all our expectations - beautiful hardwood floors, extremely comfortable beds and linens, plush bath towels, new kitchen appliances. The living room downstairs was the perfect spot to read to the kids (ages 1 to 5 years old) in front of a cozy fire in the woodstove. The kids also enjoyed playing in the sitting room just off the upstairs bedroom, which had a futon and closets big enough for them to play hide-and-seek in. We were only 20 minutes from nearby Asheville and enjoyed shopping in the area. We also took the candlelight tour of the nearby Biltmore House. All in all, we have wonderful family memories from our stay there. The owners of this cabin were absolutely great to work with, and gave excellent directions so we had no problems with family coming in from the coast of North Carolina and from Kentucky. We really loved this spot and would recommend it highly as a quiet retreat for an individual or couple, or as a peaceful stay for a small family. Realizing that this is not a hotel/condo with regular maid service, you will be required to do some clean-up behind yourselves. Excellent value!!
