'Les Volets Bleus' is located on the edge of a small village in the French heartland, La Vienne, Department 86. The 150 year old house has been fully modernized, yet preserves old world charm. The rooms are spacious with large windows and plenty of light. There are ceiling fans in all the bedrooms and the beds are all very comfortable. They can be configured as twin or king. There is a covered veranda with dining area in the back garden and a dining area in the enclosed front garden for morning sun. The kitchen/great room provides ample room for several cook and informal gathering. The salon has a seating area and a game table, as well as maps and tourist information. There is a bedroom/bath that is handicapped accessable on the ground floor.

Nearby: The village has all the necessary shops, including bank, pharmacy, small well stocked market, and excellent boulangerie. There are larger supermarkets as well as a local fresh food market every day in one of the four nearby towns. The four nearby towns have additional historic and recreational opportunities. The local fixed price restauraunt serves lunch most week days. Walk or bike the nearby rail path, or explore the local leisure park's natural history sites. Horse back riding and golf are available near by. The area is also ideal for painters and photographers, with 'undiscovered' sites every place you look. The rolling landscape is excellent for bikers and runners.

Day trips: One hour north is the Loire valley with many magnificent chateaux and gardens. Stop to taste the wines of these regions, and visit historic towns of Richelieu and Chinon. Travel west to the atlantic beaches, watch how salt is harvested and visit historic La Rochelle and Isle de Re. Travel south to Poitiers to see sites dating to Roman times, a charming river, and beautiful, historic churches. Along the way stop in Neuville at the micro-brewery and huilery. To the east, visit a midevil active monastary where the monks sing gregorian chant and sell their hand crafted pottery. Stop in Angles sur Anglens, a 'beau village' and discover their prehistory cave paintings. Visit the tourist office in the village or examine the information at the house to design the perfect events for you.

About Linda Trum

we are 3 american women who came to france on a house swap and fell in love with the region and way of life in the Frence countryside. One of us has an american cousin and her french husband, who retired in the region., who gave us the courage and guidance to follow a dream. Although now separated by many miles in the U.S.A. we have been friends since childhood. This deep and enduring friendship has allowed us to make the big and small decisions to manifest this dream.

We wanted a house that was habitable during renovation adn situated on the edge of a village. Over the years we have a new floors, a new slate roof, a fully equiped kitchen, electric radiators, beautiful gardens and fruit trees, a stone patio under our veranda, new ceilings and walls painted in the vibranct colors of the countryside.

Les Volets Bleus is a wonderful home for families or groups of friends. It invites cooking, entertaining, day tripping and just kicking back and relaxing doing nothing.

I'm still floating on the good feelings from a week in this beautiful house. It is so spacious, so well appointed, so charming! The supplies for a gourmet experience -- equipment, linen, pottery, and of course the great food available at local markets -- were just one side of the experience. Traveling around the countryside and to the lovely nearby towns & cities (Richlieu, Chinon, Chateleraut, Poitiers) fills a picture of how glorious the countryside is, how rich the teroir, what a fantastic heritage of historic buildings from the Twelfth Century forward. Linda, who is a friend, is an amazing, knowledgeable, thoughtful host & landlord. A wonderful experience.
