We arrived at the beach house and after getting up the stairs, which definitely improves your activity level, we walked into paradise. The house was elegantly outfitted. The 4 poster king bed had the most comfortable mattress we have ever slept on while renting anywhere in the world. All the furnishings were elegant and up to date. The dual fireplace would be so awesome in the fall and winter. The big bathroom was like entering a spa, complete with TV while you let the jets take you away. The solitude was wonderful; no car sounds, no noise, just the morning woodpecker in his tree. You don't even hear the boats or jet skis on the lake when you are on the deck enjoying the beautiful, unobstructed view. The views are just breathtaking from anywhere in the house. The restaurants in Michigan City were great, and the Blue Chip Casino was wonderful. This is a wonderful place to just unwind, relax and find peace within yourself. Bring lots of reading material because you won't want to leave your surroundings. The owner was wonderful, very helpful, and his son helped unload our car. The home is immaculate, very well maintained, and is as clean as your own home. All the appliances, fixtures and televisions were excellent. Furniture in the living room very comfy. Our dog, Mollymarie, loved being loose on the beautiful deck, which had a complete see-through enclosure around it for safety. The dining on the deck was great early in the morning. We apparently hit the hottest week in history but still enjoyed ourselves. The outlet mall is fantastic and has wonderful name-brand stores. The walk to the beach is very beautiful and quiet. Unfortunately we did not see any deer but I have read others have seen them. This was our most relaxing vacation but when I go again I will plan to eat my meals out. All you need to take are the clothes on your back, and your toothbrush. Ben provides the rest. This listing was exactly as promised, and customer service was top notch. This was a five star rental.
Samuel Clemens describing his home said, " our house had a heart and soul, and eyes to see us with: and approvals and solicitudes, and deep sympathies: it was of us,
and we were in its confidence, and lived in its grace and in the peace of its benediction..
we could not enter it unmoved." For a home away from home, this rental is perfect.
The home, the setting, the care of the owners - all perfect. I look forward to returning
to this rental, truly the best.
We travelled to the area for the Notre Dame v Stanford game and stayed at this place about 45 minutes away from the chaos of South Bend during a football game. We are glad we did! The weekend was supposed to be about football, but was surpassed by our enjoyment of this property. The most striking thing about it was the view from the multiple floor to ceiling exposure to the northwest. Due to weather, we could not take advantage of the hot tub (55 mph winds). But we managed to grill and use the fireplace, which provided plenty of warmth on the super cold and rainy weekend.
The kitchen was stocked with every tool we needed. We baked, fried bacon, made pot after pot of coffee...everything you need for dishes and utensils is provided! The kitchen is VERY nice.
The weather broke on Sunday-check-out day, and we walked on the beach before checking out. It was fantastic! the location of this property is such a wonderful opportunity for water lovers.
Tips: clarify fees for cleaning ahead of time. Bring extra paper goods along with your food. Try the Shoreline Restaurant very close by for unique and VERY good local food. Prepare to enjoy. One of the nicer places we have rented. Thank you, Ben.
After our wedding we fled to the Miami for what unbeknownst to us, turned out to be one of the best weeks of our lives. We made it to the home and were warmly greeted by Ben, the owner. We brought our two dogs: our Border Collie and Rottie. We were initially worried about the location being on the third floor as our Border Collie has a bad left leg, but were happy to realize there are 3 landings breaking up the stairway, so going up and down was absolutely no issue whatsoever.
Walking into the house was absolutely breathtaking. The ceilings are angled and very high. The living area is very open and expansive. The kitchen is absolutely impeccable and setup in the most ergonomic way. The kitchenware was fully stocked with everything we could've possibly needed for our week's stay. (We cooked all meals for 6 of the days) The living room was very warm and enjoyable to spend time together (especially with all of the French doors opened up. However, most of our time was spent on the balcony with the beautiful clar view of Lake Michigan. Spending each night with a glass of wine in the hot tub watching the sunset and boats flyby was very relaxing. Walking from the balcony into the bedroom you are greeted with the 4 poster king sized bed. This bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in our entire lives. It was hard returning to our Queen sized mattress at home. The fireplace joins the living room to the bedroom via the adjoining wall, and it was phenomenal at night when it was a bit chilly on a few of the nights. When entering the master bedroom we were blown away by the magnitude of the room, along with the continuation of the extremely high ceilings and skylights that are located in each of the rooms of the home. The jetted Jacuzzi was amazing to end a nice relaxing day. The master bathroom also included a dual headed glass enclosed shower as well as a privacy glass enclosed toilet and bidet.
The location was spectacular, extraordinarily serene and quite (except for our recently adopted Rottie that discovered his bark around the 3rd or 4th evening) It seemed as even though he barked at everyone passing by (not may pass by as it is very secluded from things going on around) it seemed to upset no one around. You will only want to leave the spectacular home to trek down to the amazing beach. Ben, the owner, and Mark, the caretaker were absolutely helpful and very pleasant to stop and chat with. We looked forward to running into them and chatting.
Beautiful vacation home with a spectacular view of the lake. It was everything we expected and more. Exceptionally clean. We enjoyed the steam room and hot tub. The bed was very comfortable. It was a short walk to the lake. The owner and caretaker were very accommodating and they make sure you have what you need. We will definitely return.
We stayed here in 2012, and our family voted unanimously to come back in 2014. Highlights:
sunrise on the beach
hot tub under the stars
picking blueberries at a nearby farm
the beautiful, spacious, and very well equipped home
friendliness and helpfulness of the owner and staff - we realized one morning when we sat down to breakfast that we were missing ketchup for the hash, and Mark (the caretaker) loaned us a brand new bottle
This place is a jewel.
