The Osprey is a charming waterfront cottage in historic South Freeport, Maine. Minimum rental - one week. Sleeps 4. Enjoy spectacular views of Casco Bay and the islands, the captivating activity of birds and boats, gorgeous sunrises, and the ever-changing beauty of the water and sky. South Freeport Village is a quiet fishing & residential community with a variety of amenities within walking distance. L.L.   • 50% balance of reservation, plus 7% Maine State lodging tax, is due 1 month prior to arrival.
    Once a time slot is reserved for you, other prospective tenants are turned away. Therefore the following cancellation policies apply (Unless new tenants are secured for the same time period.) More than 3 months prior to arrival: half of 50% deposit will be refunded. 1-3 months prior to arrival: deposit of50% is non-refundable. Less than 1 month prior to arrival: no refunds.
  • Adjacent cottage available. Both Cottages are located on Harraseeket Harbor next to the Yacht Club. (#163952.)

Notes: For renters bringing pets, there is a weekly pet fee of $100, and dogs need to be cleaned-up after promptly. There is a scoop and a bin provided on the premises for that purpose. We also ask that dogs stay off of the furniture. We also require a pet security deposit of $150 that is mailed back to renters promptly after inspection of the cottage. Please note that we live next door with two dogs. We would be sharing a large patio area, and other renters may have dogs as well.

There are many amenities within walking distance including two marinas, Harraseeket Yacht Club (next door), the historic Castle Tower, casual waterfront restaurants serving fresh Maine seafood, village store, post office and historic South Freeport Church est. 1856.

Freeport: Freeport is home to Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, Hedgehog Mountain, Maine Audubon's Mast Landing Sanctuary, and Winslow Park Beach. A 20-minute climb at nearby Bradbury Mountain State Park offers fantastic vistas of the entire area.

Portland: 12 miles to the south is the city of Portland, Maine. Portland is routinely ranked among America's top destinations for its history, location, and wealth of restaurants, galleries, museums, theaters, boating and sight-seeing activities.

Golf: The 9-hole 'Freeport' course at the Freeport Country Club facility in Freeport, Maine features 2,939 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. The course rating is 34.5 and it has a slope rating of 116. Freeport golf course opened in 1965. Nearby Brunswick Golf Club, (15 min.) offers a challenging, well-conditioned 18-hole course, considered by many to be the best in mid-coast Maine.

We entered our week of relaxation and Maine hospitality by driving down a road flanked by charming antique houses. At the final turn, the view of the sailboats on the Haraseeket River and this unique property made us catch our breaths. There sat two cottages and the owner's home-- a magnificent redesign of a former cannery--right on the water, built on pilings, allowing the water from the river to lap under them at high tide. Our cottage was spotless, decorated in crisp blue and white with a spacious layout and comfortable furnishings, and a well-stocked kitchen. A huge patio with a gas grill and plenty of seating leads to the dock,complete with Adirondack chairs and canoe, and a view of the boats and island-filled river. The charming owner made us feel welcome, and introduced us to her well-behaved pets and the general area. Within walking distance is a renowned lobster pound, and it's a short drive to a state park and to the great shopping in Freeport, including L.L.Bean's flagship store. Highly recommended to those looking for a unique, quiet get-a-way and total relaxation. We will return!

Relaxing South Freeport Waterfront Cottage

My husband our Pug and I drove from Rochester, NY To Freeport, Maine in August. When we drove down the hill to the cottage you could see the water and boats right away, it was gorgeous! We were greeted by the owner (Jan)'s hens and 2 friendly dogs, Jan was welcoming and kind. Our cottage was spotless and adorable. We immeditely went on the dock to see the view and enjoy the sun. During our week there we went to Wolfe's neck state park, Winslow park, took a drive to see the "Desert of Maine", shopped in the town of Freeport, collected sea shells by the water, got great sunrise photos in the morning, saw amazing stars and sky at night, took a half hour drive to Portland and Cape Elizabeth, went on long walks with our dog in the beautiful friendly, neighborhood and ate at some great local restaurants 2 within walking distance and one about a mile or two away. Haraseeket lunch and lobster co.down the road on the water, The Village Market is another really cute place within walking distance and the owners are great and a good place to go to for breakfast or lunch & The Old World Gourmet which has delicious sandwiches and Panini's. We really loved our vacation and can't wait to visit again.
