We started coming to the Big Island in 1999. We were living on a mountaintop in Colorado at 10,500 elevation and needed to escape 5 feet of snow a week in April when the rest of the country was enjoying spring. Our first visit was for 2 weeks. We found that Hawaii was addicting. Currently, we spend about 10 months a year on the Big Island and consider it our home.
We fell in love with the natural beauty of the Mauna Lani Resort. It's a place to forget about work and just relax. We scuba at the Beach Club. We golf on the 2 championship golf courses. We love walking around the fish ponds and reading about the history of Mauna Lani. The restaurants are wonderful. We enjoy watching the whales and all of the ocean life. Knowing that Mauna Lana is an eco friendly resort that cares about the environment is important to us. We find the location of the Palm Villas to be ideal since we can walk anywhere in the resort.
This was our 3rd stay at Palm Villas (and second stay in this unit!!!). This time around we had a blast boogie boarding at Hapuna Beach. A lovely few days at Mauna Kea Beach (arrive before 9 a.m. to get in!!), and as always, awesome snorkeling at the Mauna Lani Beach Club. We had excellent meals at Napua, Tommy Bahama, Café Pesto, and Bamboo (in Hawi). Being from So Cal we found awesome Mexican food at El Maguey in Kona. Also a fun, yummy lunch at Kona Brewing Co. The kids loved the seahorse museum tour and the beach there is beautiful. We will be back soon. Aloha Mahalo
This was our best VRBO experience to date! The condo is spacious, spotless, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The grounds are gorgeous and the location central to everything on the Kona side of the island. You have provided all the comforts of home in the setting of a fine resort. What more could a family want or need! The outdoor kitchen was a great feature & the private beach was lovely--we will definitely be planning a return trip! Thanks Trude & Scott!
Five of us stayed in this beautifully kept condo. It is spacious and well-appointed in all the amenities. The owner is very accessible and ready to answer any questions. The access to the beach is farther than we were told. It is a good 15-20 minutes through the fish ponds, but once you get there, it is a nice gentle cove with chairs, cabanas, showers, bathrooms, and a small café, and water "toys" for rent. Great for kids. There is a grocery store, restaurant, and shops five minutes away, with more a short distance south. It was an added perk to have snorkel sets and beach equipment in the unit. Thank you, Trude, for your attention to all.
Stayed in this Palm Villa unit for a few nights at the beginning of November 2014. Very spacious for 5 adults and 2 young kids. Beautifully decorated and feels very homey. Well stocked with towels and beach equipments. Very close to some shops including a grocery store. Owner is very accommodating and organized.
One minor complaint is that the two twin beds are not comfortable for us. That could be because we are more used to memory foam mattress. So my husband ended up sleeping on the couch in the loft.
Will return if we go to big island again, and will certainly recommend it to friends and families.
This Palm Villa property not only met our expectations but exceeded them, which is very unusual for me since I go in to every rental property with high expectations. Booking and working with Trude was smooth sailing. Answered all questions promptly. The property is beautiful. Tastefully decorated, this unit is great with it's own private parking space, and 2 stories end unit with nobody above or below you. Everything you need is there. The kitchen was well stocked. Thanks for the rice cooker! There were ice packs in the freezer for coolers, plenty of barbecue supplies for the outdoor grill which we utilized often. The only odd thing was no oil, but we remedied that cooking with butter and bacon grease (hey, we're on vacation).
Lots of room and space for the 5 of us (3 adults and 2 kids ages 5 and 3). Having 3 bathrooms is very nice, the place is spacious. Plenty of beach toys and gear (boogie boards, umbrella, beach chairs, coolers, you name it!). Plenty of beach towels. Just very well stocked.
Our only bummer were that this was the first home we stayed at in Hawaii with no ocean/sunset views, so it took a bit to adjust. We are home early with little kids, and love watching the ocean/sunset from our condos in the evening. However, for this location, and this price, for this property with these amenities, I am willing to give up the ocean view. It's not a far drive/walk away.
Just a FYI: the washer in the home is pretty loud during the spin cycle. Might want to run it while people are awake or not in the house.
Loved Mauna Lani. The private beach is lovely. Close parking, gentle waves, beach chairs for use. You're also on the Kohala coast which means beautiful beaches (Hapuna, Mauna Kea). We got fresh fish almost every day to grill on our lanai. Nice little gourmet grocery markets in Mauna Lani and in Queen's shops in Waikoloa. Otherwise there is Safeway, Walmart and Costco in Kona, and a grocery store in Waikoloa Village about 6 miles up Waikola Road.
Amazing property, highly recommend. Will definitely stay here again. Thanks for a wonderful time!
The house is big, elegant, clean and well furnished. Rooms and bathrooms are cozy and huge (the master bedroom shower is as lage as a regular bathroom). Kitchen is equipped with everything needed for the most experienced cooker. we had a minor issue with the AC that was solved within hours. Swimming pool is warm, especially in the afternoon, and the fitness center is a bonus. We enjoyed breakfast and daily BBQ outside. All the best beaches are within a 15min drive. Too bad the next week we had to move to the Waikoloa Hilton Resort, which, given the price, is not even comparable to the beauty of this apartment!!
We have been to the Big Island 6 times now and this has been the best vacation yet. The condo is so well appointed and comfortable you feel like you are on vacation at home! We will definitely be back next year and recommend this to anyone who likes an immaculate and clean property to stay.
