excellent house

My friends and I rented this house for a week. We loved it, and knew instantly that we had made an excellent decision renting this house. Before we got there, Maria gave us excellent directions, information on the house, and was super pleasant to work with. Upon arrival, we found the house to be just as described: the pool was spotless, the beach was right there, and the house was clean, open, and very inviting. It was obvious that this is someone's house, not just a shell of a house only used for rentals. There are piles of beautiful seashells and artwork all over. Don Lupe, the groundskeeper, was a delight, and a highlight was him cracking open coconuts for us one day. There was tons of room for us to spread out, relax, and do nothing, which is exactly what we did for the first three or four days of our stay.
The nearest town, Progreso, is laid back and not touristy (except for the occasional cruise ship that stops in town, but those folks are gone in a matter of hours). The malecon makes for nice strolling along the beach. There are great seafood restaurants, a nice grocery store, and an awesome market. We tried to get up early to hit the market for fresh fish, vegetables, flowers, etc. Being able to cook at the house was a definite plus, and the kitchen had everything we needed.
The house is also close enough for other explorations. We hit a few Mayan ruins, cenotes, and Merida. Merida is a wonderful city and worth a visit or two. In fact, after our week at the house, we stayed in Merida for a couple of nights.
After our trip, Maria was prompt in returning our deposit; my only regret is that I wasn't able to meet her during our vacation.
