The Seine and Pont Neuf are just steps out the building door. The apartment is set two court yards back from the street making it extremely quiet. The entire 1660's building and apartment have been recently renovated and are both well maintained. In the center of Paris, 20 rue Dauphine is very close or has easy access to absolutely every major attraction in the city as well as the many places one wants to discover in Paris including the metro to the Flea Market , a must, and the RER train to Versailles.
Enjoy a well designed, clean and contemporary city apartment with the calm and quiet of the country while on an animated street in the heart of Paris. The walking distance to the Seine River is less than 1 minute and to Metro stations: Saint Germain des Pres,Odeon, Saint Michel ,Pont Neuf and Mabillon no more than 2 to 5.
The neighborhood is loaded with great restaurants, shops, cafés. Supermarkets are close and the wonderful food / specialty shops are endless.
The apartment is a 4 1/2 flight walk up to the top with no elevator . The benefit of the great work out is free as is the great light and Paris roof top views. The light is easily blocked for a dark and quiet night's sleep.

I have lived between Boston and France for 30+ years since my university junior year abroad.
Scott Slater purchased this apartment in 1980
Saint Germain was my favorite area of Paris and I would find myself in the area daily. It was the obvious location for me to buy an apartment when I needed a work and home base.
It's amazing location and incredible night's sleep !
We rented Scott's apartment between Christmas 2014 and New Year's day, and we highly recommend it! We agree with previous reviewers' comments about the ease of working with Scott, and the utter peace and quiet of the apartment. This was our first VRBO experience, and we are glad to say it was a very positive one. Laurent was like a concerned uncle, meeting us as our cab pulled up and making sure we got an honest deal from the cab driver, and checking in on us by phone two or three times during the week (and returning a left-behind teddy bear after we had vacated). He recommended a bakery that we managed to visit at least once a day (except Sunday when, sadly for us, it was closed), as well as restaurants and sights. In our search, we found it difficult to find an apartment at the right price with the right number of beds for a family of four (three beds). This apartment was the perfect size and configuration for us -- a toilet and sink on the main level for the kids, and a full bath in the loft. The sofa is not a pull-out sofa, but fortunately we had one child just small enough to fit! The kitchen was well equipped for us to eat in for breakfast (including a moka pot/stovetop coffee maker), as well as some "picnic" suppers foraged from local shops. The location made it easy to get wherever we wanted to go. We were very sad to leave this lovely apartment in that beautiful city, and hope to return someday.
My daughter and I stayed 2 weeks in Scott's apartment in Nov. 2014. I agree with everything Janet W. said. I have rented many times from VRBO, but no owners and managers were as terrific as Scott and Laurent. They are both gentlemen extraordinaire. We loved the sky light over the bed on a rainy morning. Janet failed to mention that the apt is in the back of the building and nothing is to be heard; no footsteps (it is the top), no horns, no conversations, nothing!! There is a landing after each 2 short flights of staircase for anyone who might choose to take their time. A hint: I brought 2 garbage bags in my suitcase to divide my clothes into 3 parts; dragging the bags up the stairs. No problems. Pack 50 lbs this way if you need a change of clothes. Descending with luggage is no big deal. (or take 3 trips). Your luggage is very safe and secure at the bottom of the stairs while you are in the process. There are 2 doors one must enter before Scott's stairs and one is on a keypad. The location is the best. There are bistros and 4-5 star restaurants only 2-3 blocks away. A fabulous take-out is just a few buildings away if your dinner plans change on the way home! I took a slice of leg of lamb and eyed the stuffed potato. We will stay here again. The sofa is comfortable enough so we didn't use the inflatable and one of us is 5'8". (saving room space). Check out the jazz sessions at 80 step away Hotel Aubusson on Rue Dauphine (a favorite jazz place during the 1940's. (soldiers). We really enjoyed Scott's collection of CD's, buying Carla Bruni was a given after several evenings of his music. Don't hesitate to try this stay. I just hope it won't be during my next trip to Paris. Janna from Colorado.
My husband and I recently stayed in Scott's wonderful apartment on Rue Dauphine in the St. Germain district. First let me say that the rental process was beyond easy, and Laurent, Scott's manager in Paris was extremely helpful, taking us through the apartment upon arrival, recommending restaurants and modes of transportation, and keeping in touch during our stay, to make sure all was going well. The apartment itself is comfortable and fully equipped. What a treat to come home in the afternoon or evening and having a comfortable space to enjoy a glass of wine and listen to music. We loved having a kitchen for breakfast and enjoying dinner in after visiting the local traiteur. Having a washing machine was great; we were able to pack less than normal. The location is perfectly located for any attraction you would want to visit in the city, and there are great restaurants, pattiseries and shops nearby. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the stairs can be a challenge after a long day, but once you are in the apartment you get the wonderful views of the rooftops and inside you can enjoy the skylight/windows built into the loft roof. We are 59 and 62 and physically active, so they were doable for us. I would highly recommend this wonderful apartment. Can't wait to visit again!
An absolutely fantastic first visit to Europe was made all the better by this beautiful, centrally located apartment. Superbly modernized unit in a building dating to the 15th century, the apartment was everything we could have expected out of Paris. Expertly maintained and amply appointed, this 5th floor home is a block from Pont Neuf, just minutes from the cathedral of Notre Dame and a 15-20 minutes walk from the Louvre.
The owner, Scott is prompt and attentive in making and confirming the reservation and his French manager Laurent was quite helpful in meeting us at the front door upon arrival and showing us how to operate the French appliances. He even went to the trouble of texting us some security tips upon arrival at the international train station.
The apartment looks great for a family or group of four. As there is no elevator, we would not recommend it for elderly or disabled guests, but the 80 step spiral staircase didn't really phase us at all.
Lots of great restaurants all within a few blocks and a couple of grocery stores and bakeries are very close for "eating in".
We loved this apartment! It's in a great location (short walk to Notre Dame, Pont Neuf, Louvre, great restaurants, bars), the interior is très cool and very comfortable, and the owner and local contact are VERY helpful. We were two adults with three kids under 10 years old, and the apartment worked great. We highly recommend it! Please note that it is something like 80 steps up, which was not a problem for us in the least bit, but for the infirm it wouldn't work.
Our family just returned from a great two-week stay in this lovely Paris apartment. It was very clean, well-organized, exactly as described on the website. The owner, Scott, was quick to respond to emails before our stay. Laurent, the local property manager, was extremely attentive and helpful.
The apartment is perfectly located for us, and we walked almost everywhere. We saved money by having breakfasts in, buying bread daily from Eric Kayser boulangerie nearby, and other groceries from the Monoprix (our beloved Paris supermarket) or small local shops. We usually went out after breakfast and came back in the afternoon for a rest and a snack, then out again for dinner and an evening walk.
The first nine days there was just me and my two teen-age daughters. When my husband and son joined us the apartment did get crowded. I would say that it's perfect for three or four people, but five is pushing it. The couch and one chair are the only comfy seats, leaving the fifth person on an uncomfortable chair or on the floor. The chairs around the dining table are worn-out and should be replaced.
The only other downside is the steps. It is a fifth-floor walk up, and the steps are steep and narrow. Getting the luggage up was hard. But as long as you can make the climb, I think it's worth it.
We had such a wonderful vacation, and we feel that the apartment on Rue Dauphine was a great choice for us. I highly recommend it!
