About Mariano Vega, Jr.

I am a City guy, born in the rainforest of Puerto Rico and I enjoy the outdoors. Weeping Willow provided an opportunity to restore a Queen Anne Victorian to modern standards, while addressing the Secretary of Interior Historic Preservation guidelines and creating a wonderful vacation home for my family and in anticipation of my grandkids.

Mariano Vega, Jr. purchased this house in 2005

Why Mariano Vega, Jr. chose Belleayre Mountain

I have been skiing the Catskills Mountains for over 50 years and after my daughter graduated from college, we finally purchased a vacation home for our family use, in anticipation of our grandchildren. Weeping Willow is a very large historic Queen Anne Victorian which has been meticulously restored and designed for comfort and modern conveniences. It is well suited for family reunions, large group gatherings and weddings.

What makes this house unique

As a former Bed and Breakfast, Weeping Willow is very large and ideal large families and for multiple family gatherings, reunion, weddings with the modern comforts in a getaway setting. The side yard is large for weddings, reunion and for the kids to play and directly across the street is the Village Park and down the street is the Village pool.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Dinero Family plus assorted siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins (20 in all) from Rochester, Massapequa Pk, Long Island, Brooklyn, Flemington NJ, and Fayetteville NY arrived for the 2014 Thanksgiving week to enjoy the Family Thanksgiving. The temperature varied from 65' down to 13" at night but we hung out, ate, went to Brios in Phoenicia, cooked a huge Thanksgiving meal, hosted a visit from relatives who live in Roxbury, went sledding at their house,.played games and stayed up super late! Met the lovely white dog who patrols the neighborhood. We would recommend Freshfoods in Margaretville, the new gym in Arkville, Brios pizza and restaurant in Phoenicia, and Oakley's Pizza in Arkville.. The highlights of our time was spent with family who we don't see often in plenty of space so we could all do our won thing, exploring the kitchen - OMG you DO have everything! The whole week was just great! We do have to return some day - but we are definitely bragging about our stay here to everyone! Thanks much - we did have a wonderful time.

Wonderful, Roomy Vacation Retreat

  • 5 of 5
We and another family enjoyed staying here over Christmas vacation and skiing at nearby Bellayre Mountain, which is under five minutes away. The home could not be lovelier or more charmingly decorated. Even with two families, this spacious home allowed plenty of comfort and privacy. Cooking for a crowd was easy and fun in the very equipped kitchen. We would love to come back here again!

Great house, honest owner.

  • of 5
I stayed in this house with a group of 6 adults and 7 kids and had a great time. The dedicated website and VRBO listing is very helpful but I will try to fill in the gaps.

First, pack your clothes and recreation gear and leave the rest at home as it is incredibly well stocked with sheets, bedding and towels. Next leave the cooking gear at home too. Don't bring a single pot, pan, fork or knife or any cooking supplies at all. Every piece of kitchen gear andy spice known to man is in this kitchen as is coffee, tea, some oil and other stuff. You will need to hit a grocery store for food but there is so much you can leave at home I really recommend getting to the house first to take stock of what you have before you buy a thing.

As far as the property goes it is very spacious and although there are neighbors the deck and backyard is big enough to feel like you are all by yourself. Inside the house we had 7 kids and they had a great time playing in the attic, exploring the 'Secret' staircase and just being kids. The adults were able to be in a group or find a place to have some quiet time.

Finally the last thing that I liked about the home is that it is a home. There are a few paint scratches here and there and a few shaky dining room chairs but I liked that. I felt like I was in a home and not a museum.

We did have one problem, the microwave did not work. I contacted the owner who apologized and although it could not be fixed right away (and I did not ask) he did offer compensation. I liked very much that I was not accused of causing damage and the owner was honest with me.

I can go on an on but I will leave it here. If you have a big group this house is worth the money. We had 3 families but could have fit at least 2 more comfortably.

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a glowing review of your experience at Weeping Willow. Your comments are right on point since we try very hard to make our house a home, which we also enjoy with our kids, granddaughter and friends. The kitchen and the spice rack is one of my favorites. The spice rack is a reflection of the diverse restaurants we visits in the large urban city where we live, The Professional Viking kitchen inspired the Chef in all of us and the spice rack is there to help lelald the way. You are very observant is pointing out the different zones that have been created to attract the use of different age groups.

The Professional Viking microwave stopped working 2 weeks before your arrival and it required a special order from Viking to obtain a new one. I arrived at Weeping Willow around 9:15 am on the morning of your departure but you already had left...now a new one has been installed and ready for use.

Again thank you for taking such good care of my home and you and your friends are welcome back anytime. You might want to consider the summer when the mountains come alive again and the environment is totally different.

We keep coming back season after season

  • 5 of 5
My family and I have stayed at Weeping Willow 5-6 times throughout the years for a wedding, Family Reunion, Birthdays, and getaways and each one has been during a different season of the year – summer, fall, winter & spring. Each season is different but each one creates a fond memory that is irreplaceable for me.

The wedding experience on the side yard with three tents really showed me how large the property really was. The summer experience, along with the close proximity of the Village Park, swimming pool and swimming hole allowed me to experience the mountains, and the natural beauty of the area. The variety of hiking trails and level of difficulty in the area are too numerous to mention. During the fall we enjoyed the full force of nature’s colors while enjoying a birthday party in the rear deck with the fire pit. The winter season and the very close proximity of Belleayre & Platekill Mts. for skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing provided great memories for the kids & adults The owners thought of every comfort, including a safe fireplace in the formal parlor. During the spring season, we enjoyed a wonderful getaway where the kitchen bought out the Chef in all my guest- during Ladies weekend. Oh, the kitchen has outstanding All-Clad pots and pans and all the gadgets you ever wanted and an outstanding spice rack. The abundance of quarts countertops encouraged all hands on deck. And the Margarita Machine to make Margaritas for my guest was quite impressive.

Weeping Willow is on a historic street with plenty of parking on the street of lawn. The neighborhood is safe and quiet without the city alarms and sirens. There are plenty of private bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms and each bedroom is difference and well appointed. Each private bedroom had its own thermostat. Can you imagine 12 individual thermostats?. The sheets, pillows and towels are clean and fresh and during the winter the comforters add an extra warm touch.
Throughout our stay at Weeping Willow our group ages have ranged from newborn to 90 years old and every one of them have enjoyed their stay and we hope to continue returning…if the owners will have us. We strong recommend Weeping Willow and the local restaurants and businesses we have visited such as breakfast at Sweet Sue in Phoenicia or the new restaurant Zephyr in Pine Hill, dinner at Inn Between Restaurant in Margaretville, Peekamoose Restaurant in Pine Hill and, Brio’s rest. In Pheonicia.

Owner's Response: Thanks you for such a kind and thorough review. I have notice how often you return to Weeping Willow and you will continue to be welcomed back because you take such good care of our home. You and one other family are tied for the most repeat visits. You seem to have picked up on the things that we like about the house, its location and it's amenities. Of all the things that you have mentioned, the kitchen and its layout speaks to the Chef in all of us. Again thanks for your supportive review of Weeping Willow

Weeping Willow

  • 5 of 5
Our family stayed at Weeping Willow in the majestic Catskills of NY in November 2014. We are an extended family of 16 and enjoyed this charmingly restored Victorian home very much. The owner thought of every comfort possible to make our stay great and carefully communicated directions and other important information to us. We would stay here again.

Comfortable and wonderful

  • 5 of 5
I've stayed in this house a few times now, and it's always such a pleasure. It's big enough that everyone has plenty of space, but cozy enough that it feels super comfortable. It's especially great for my group of friends: some of us have young kids and some of us prefer to stay up late and sleep in, and this place accommodates both because the bedrooms are all upstairs and it stays so quiet. The kitchen is great for making big meals (there are all sorts of cooking tools/pots/pans, etc.) and the outdoor deck is perfect for a fire and s'mores. Comfortable beds, too, which I think is rare in country homes upstate, and everything was remarkably clean upon our arrival. The town of Fleischmann's itself is nothing too exciting, but there's a nearby grocery store with all the essentials and a bigger, nicer supermarket nearby that has everything you'd want.

Owner's Response: Thank you or your kind review of your stay at Weeping Willow and I am pleased that you have returned with your friends to enjoy the solitude that only the mountains can bring. The future looks bright for Fleischmanns because plans for the development of Belleayre Resort at Catskill Park is currently under review for Wildacres a 250-room hotel plus a 139 lodging units in townhouse style surrounded by an 18 hole golf course. A second resort Highmount Spa consist of 120 units hotel, spa facility, 60 lodging units in a multi-unit buildings designed as ski-in ski-out
resort connecting the old Highmount Ski Center to Belleayre Ski Mountain. The best is yet to come.

Perfect Getaway All Year Round!

  • 5 of 5
I have stayed at Weeping Willow several times over the last 6 years and I keep coming back every chance I get. The winters are perfect for ski enthusiasts as it is only 5 minutes away from Bellayre Mountain or even for large groups looking to enjoy a quiet weekend. The fireplace is the best treat to enjoy after a long day of skiing! I've also attended a wedding here during the summer and hosted a bridal shower during the fall. Every guest that I introduce to Weeping Willow has an outstanding time and falls in love with the home.

Pros: many rooms, sleeps 20+ comfortably, a state-of-the-art kitchen with every appliance imaginable, very clean linens and sheets, 3 Hi-def TVs, a gaming system, outdoor deck with fire pit, grill, large park across the street with tennis courts, and AMAZING customer service from Mariano!

Cons: Gets rented out very quickly during the winter so book early!!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review and for returning year after year..I also enjoy the winter a lot due to the proximity of Belleayre Mountain. As a skiing family man, I have introduced skiing to my family, to their friends and to many inner city kids. Now these kids are adults and they are returning atso. Your supportive comments are heart felt...Thanks....obregado
