Family reunions are for laughing and eating

Date of Stay: July 2009
Four generations of family, sixteen of us from 4 to 92 years old, from the East, South, and Midwest converged on quaint, quiet Fleischmanns in July, 2009.
The house was exactly as described (with one exception -- see below): old but very well kept. Den, living room, dining room, a half-bath, and kitchen on main floor. Lots of seating here and there for subgroups. The kitchen was excellent. One of our group was a professional chef, and she couldn't stop raving about the appliances, utensils, and provisions. The dining room has a smallish table, so a large group indoors won't be able to eat all in one room.
There are four private bedrooms on the second floor, two with ensuite bathrooms, and two sharing a bath in the hall. All clean and comfortable. Up another flight in the attic are two more private rooms plus a "dormitory" with about six more beds and one more bathroom.
Front porch with rocking chairs and a hammock which the little ones loved. Deck out back with two large charcoal grills and lots of wicker furniture and a large table for dining.
The only disconnect between description and reality was the bedroom count. Expected seven, not including the "dorm", but there were only six. That wasn't a problem for us, but if you're cutting it close, be aware.
The park across the street has tennis courts, a small playground, and a baseball field, where an authentic vintage baseball league played several games (old woolen uniforms, baseball gloves out of the 1800's). Very entertaining. There's a creek on the far side of the diamond. The kids could have stayed all day throwing stones into the water.
During our stay, we journeyed to Woodstock for an afternoon and also took a ride on the Delaware and Ulster historic railroad, definitely worth the time.
Bring as much of your own groceries as you can. The nearest supermarket isn't near at all.
The owner was very prompt with answering email inquiries and also graciously took several phone calls from us before our stay. Though he lives in NJ, one call he answered from the house in Fleischmanns, in the middle of some improvement project.
If the description of the property and surroundings sounds like it will suit your group, I say go for it. We had a great time. I'd go four and a half stars if I could.
