Enjoy this wonderful private home (Sugar Shack at H-Bay) new to the vacation rental market on Heeia Bay in the Keauhou resort area. Just a few steps to H-Bay where you can snorkel with turtles, surf or boogie board. Around the corner is Keauhou Bay. Keauhou Bay offers several amenities that compliment the perfect island vacation.
There is snorkeling, diving, deep sea fishing, sunset cruises, snorkel trips, sailing adventures to Captain Cook, dock fishing, beach volleyball, kayak rentals and finish the day with the legendary night dive or snorkel with manta rays. All this is within a few blocks of the Sugar Shack at H-Bay.
Four doors away is the entrance to Kanaloa where you can enjoy a Mai Tai at sunset or whale watch (Dec-Apr) while dining at The Grill & Bar at Kanaloa. You can also walk to the Sheraton across the bay and enjoy their restaurants, bars and oceanfront Luau. The Sugar Shack at H-Bay is across the street from the 11th fairway of the Ocean Course at the Kona Country Club. There is also a Mountain Course. A golfers dream!

Wow! The view from the lanai, the sound of the ocean, the soft sounds of the birds, and good friends completed the picture. There was myself and two other couples that shared this very comfortable, well-appointed home in a nice, quiet neighborhood. We found shopping nearby, some restaurants, a farmer's market on Saturday morning, and gas station--all within walking distance. Also a little further away, but still within walking distance, was Keauhou Bay. We chartered the Captain Jack fishing boat at Keauhou Bay, and caught three ono/wahoo and barbecued them on the grill on the lanai! Some of us also took advantage of the wonderful spa at the house.
It is a pleasure to recommend this lovely rental.
We had a wonderful 3 week vacation at this rental. It is better than the photos. Very clean, comfortable homely house. It's a two minute walk to great snorkeling and ten minute walk to the local shopping Center that hosts regular cultural events - hula, singing, weekly Farmer's market, bus service to Kona... Many other things close by - you barely need a car - except to visit any of the multitude of offerings on the Big Island. The owner was very helpful and prompt to respond to our questions. We highly recommend this property.
My husband & I have been coming to the Kona area since 1994. We find ourselves drawn to the Keahou area. We were delighted to find the "Sugar Shack" for our most recent stay. We were joined by two other couples. The house was well appointed with plenty of room for everyone and all our "stuff". We loved having all of our meals on the large lanai. Have a garage to store all our snorkel gear was great. We walked to the bay for snorkeling, fishing (caught 4 Ono while on the Captain Jack), renting kayaks & SUPs. Thanks Millie - Kathi, Montie & friends
We were in this home for a month. All things are as described, in fact, exceed the expectation. Everything works, it's clean and comfy. Minutes to the beach. Extra gear in the garage for beach trips was awesome. Chairs, cooler, fins, snorkel.... how cool! I appreciated the WIFI for working (although there is hardly time for it!) and the ability to sit on the lanai and use my laptop there. Nothing better than to run your business from such a beautiful spot. The owner was concise and responded to questions prior to our arrival quickly. Will I rent again - YES. This is a great home at a very fair price.
What a place to stay and relax! Watched the sunsets on the huge lanai a true stones throw from the surf. Location was so perfect with everything a walk away. House was ideal with bedrooms spread throughout for privacy. Beach stuff in the garage was so convenient, so we didn't have to rent snorkles, etc. Owner was very timely on all correspondence and just awesome to deal with. Definately recommend the Sugar Shack and will be returning again. Loved all the literature & guides left in the house to see what other activites were available.
Donna's review of this property (below) really captures it. While accurate, the decription of this house on VRBO does not do it justice! The house doesn't have a pool and isn't on a sandy beach (not many of those on the Kona Coast), but everything else you could want is there. It is clean and well-maintained with up-to-date appliances. Heeia Bay is a two-minute walk and the snorkeling is fantastic. One morning we saw 8 sea turtles (maybe the same one more than once, but definitely more than 5) and a wide variety of fish. Better than renowned Keauhou Bay next door - which we also tried. The view is great and the lanai fabulous. It sleeps 6 in 3 rooms very comfortably; the sofa bed can handle one or two more, but is in the middle of the living room. Ceiling fans everywhere keep it nice and cool. When I rent a house, I am always forgetting little things that I need. The Keauhou Shopping Center is a 3-minute drive up the hill. Between the supermarket and Long's drug store everything you need is there. And they have great Hawaiian entertainment every week. Maybe best of all, this house is an excellent value! Highly recommended, especially for families.
