Building snow people, coming into a warm cozy fire, curling up with a great book, or soaking in the hot tub are all part of your experience.

AUTUMN arrives with abundant colors as the leaves turn. Hikes along the Cowlitz River, or bicycling, are two enjoyable activities this time of year. Photographers love to capture the seasons in the valley, and autumn is a particularly delightful time.
Wild Salmon Retreat is the best Packwood cabin in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall!
The photo was taken in May 2009 on the Cowlitz River. During a difficult time of chemotherapy and radiation, I came to the river to be heal my mind, body and spirit. The sounds of the river, and the rich abundance of wildlife allows my parasympthetic nervous system to relax. It is at Wild Salmon Retreat that I feel most alive and I hope your spirits will be rejuvenated too. As a registered nurse, and soon to be nurse practitioner, I know the importance of needing to take time for ourselves and our health.
Debbie purchased this cabin in 2006
When your needing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and need a place to relax, Wild Salmon Retreat is an excellent choice. Wild Salmon Retreat features a wood burning stove in the living area and the heat will melt your tensions away. My cabin will allow your sympathetic nervous system to relax.
Wonderful Christmas- snow on Christmas Day, Elk, eagles and family fun and games! We had a good time. Thank you.
This cabin is easy to find, close to mountains, and a couple of miles to great coffee and blueberry muffins! We saw the herd of elk, listened to the creek and river rushing by, enjoyed the sound of the wind through the tall trees , stood out in the dark to see the satellite fly over and soaked our sore bocies in the hot tub after hiking in those mountains.
We had a fantastic time at this cabin. What a peaceful place! We cooked most meals at the cabin and enjoyed the fireplace. It is walking distance to a trail going down to the Cowlitz River; we enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Just a short drive up the mountain, we saw snow and a view of Mt Rainier. Our favorite feature is how quiet it was.
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. Clean, well-stocked and near Packwood, Mt Rainier NP and White Pass. There is a short, but only moderately difficult trail, to the scenic Cowlitz River. The hot tub was a delight and Debbie was very easy to work with. Only one suggestion: the handle that controls the shower water flow is difficult to use. I recommend a stay at this Wild Salmon Retreat..
Great get away for the price. I am not sure what the last review was talking about..the kitchen was amazingly stocked...great array of dishes and pots and pans as well as extra spices! I was most impressed with the amount of towels and bedding available for us to use. Our family thought the beds were comfortable. I think that most people come into a vacation cabin rental with expectations of a hotel...but shouldn't-- after all it is in the mountains and should be a bit rustic! With that said we were a little disappointed that the river wasn't visible from the cabin and you could hear road noise. The TV was perfect for our kids to watch videos and we didn't expect there to be service...again you are in the mountains! This was a great substitute for camping as we normally camp in the park...allowed us to focus on hiking and exploring the area with a nice relaxing hot tub and homey cabin to come back to in the evening. I wouldn't come here expecting solitude and wilderness. You are in the mountains in a cabin neighborhood with road noise, but it is a nice cabin and very convenient to the park and trails. We would consider coming back in the winter to hit the slopes! The owner is fantastic to work with :-)
My family and I had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Wild Salmon Retreat! The cabin was very comfortable, and cozy. We love the warm colors of the cabin and the beautiful decor. We enjoyed watching some classic videos and spending quality family time with each other. We went hiking and mushroom picking. Every morning, with cup of coffee in hand, I walked to the river anticipating to see the elk and eagles. On the last morning, low and behold I saw three eagles fly across the river. Our cabin experience was perfect and we can't wait to return. Our friends stayed at Debbie's (owner) cabin during the summer, and they highly recommended it. I would highly recommend this cabin to future guests.
Positives: we loved the fire pit and appreciated the wiener and marshmallow sticks. Beyond that we were quite disappointed. We made a list of the issues (something we've never done, or needed to do with other VRBO properties). Here is the list:
-Closet door in downstairs bedroom (where we stayed) off track and frustrating to open/close
-Saran Wrap/baggies/foil not provided. Things in kitchen VERY minimal- certainly not "fully stocked" as the listing indicated. The listing did mention to bring paper plates, napkins and paper towels if wanted.
-Soap- not even a bar of soap for the shower!!!
-Very hot in cabin (outside temp 80 degrees) ceiling fan in loft minimally effective- we had to go out and buy fans as none provided
-As stated- kitchen minimally stocked- only 2 wine glasses.....
-Poor Bed- very poor, made our backs hurt and clearly needs to be replaced. Sheets and mattress pad worn out- we literally woke up several times each night to tug the bottom sheet and mattress pad back in place- it bunched up all over the place and no matter what we did it would not stay on. The entire bed situation did not lend itself to a restful, relaxing vacation!
-shower- tiny, very tiny and the knob didn't work- came off completely the 4th day we were there
-Very Dark inside! how dark everything looked was the first thing we noticed when we walked in
-TV didn't not work (no service) however under entertainment the listing says "television" -we naturally assumed we could watch T.V.
-Window screen- would not stay in place (incorrectly installed or broken?). I attempted to pull it back into place several times. The last night it fell out of the window completely. My husband went around to the trash cans the next morning and put it back on
- Listing indicated "first class accommodations" and we paid a first class price (approximately $160 a night for 2 people and a 5.5 pound dog). We were willing to pay that as we expected "first class". We got economy at best. Very disappointing.
-Owner, Debbie, nice to deal with. Before posting our review we contacted her and expressed our disappointment. She assured us she would consider our feedback before renting to others.
