Great Apartment...Even Better Hosts

easytraveler California
Review Submitted: October 5, 2007 Date of Stay: September 2007
A quick decision to make a trip to Puerto Rico turned into an experience I will always remember due to random luck of the rental unit I picked and the wonderful people who own it.

First, the unit itself. It was a one-bedroom apartment which was straight out of a five star hotel. Beautifully furnished with it’s own wet bar, bedroom, bathroom and setting room. It was both cozy as well classy and sleek at the same time. Being downstairs from the main house, I had all the privacy and quite I could desire.

But while the apartment was 5 star, the owners Russ and Marcos were 6 star hosts. Russ arranged to pick me up at the airport and give me a nice orientation tour of the island as we drove to Palmas del Mar area. Once there, he was kind enough to cook a wonderful dinner and see to my first day of relaxation, as I sat enjoying a book looking out over the beautiful Caribbean view. The next morning Russ invited me to take a walk in El Yunque Rainforest, but not the tourist area, rather a beautiful “back door” area of foliage, flowers, and waterfalls.

On another day, Marcos was able to take me in to Old San Juan where he showed me the forts and other historic sites as well as some of the interesting places that tourists just don’t know about. We lunched at a small Puerto Rican restaurant he knew of which gave me a true taste of the country.

The highlight of the trip was a most fantastic surprise birthday party that Russ and Marcos arranged. I had heard of many of their wonderful friends, and this gave me an opportunity to meet them all. While the food, cake and drink were all wonderful, it was the warmth and caring of the people who threw the party that was the most important to me.

The beaches, which were a moderate walk, were outstanding. One was completely deserted, almost completely out of the site of human activity and coconuts laying around, having fallen from the beautiful palm trees that shaded me from the warm afternoon sun. The other beach was in a more populated area, but still without people in sight. The sunset I enjoyed there was probably one of the most beautiful I have seen.

It seemed too soon that it was time to leave and Russ was kind enough to return me to the airport. I hated to leave Puerto Rico after such a short time, but I know I shall return. While the flight is a bit farther from the West Coast then Hawaii, I found Puerto Rico has all the charm and hospitality that Hawaii must have had 50 years ago, unspoiled by complete total tourist commercialization. Besides, I didn’t make it to the home of Bicardi Rum, one good reason to return.

Great Vacation Get Away,

bwhite Boston USA
Review Submitted: September 7, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We've stayed at this property a few times before and were ready to head back. But the offer of a free condo on the Dutch island of Saint Marteen was too good to pass-up so off we went. Saint Martin was beautiful, different and fun to explore until we were robbed of money, passport, credit cards, etc. Logically we knew it was an isolated incident, but we just didn't feel safe and decided to call Russ, the owner, to see if his unit was available. Lucky for us, it was and we flew over to Puerto Rico. As soon as we hit the gates of Palmas del Mar with it's miles of stunning grounds and private security company, we got right back into vacation mode.

Besides the beaches, snorkeling, horseback-riding and waterfront restaurants, Russ took us to a new private and exclusive spa, Los Lagos where we swam in incredible infinity pools overlooking lakes and fountains galore. We were the only people poolside and luxuriated in our own private and romantic cabana lounges under palm trees. It was vacation, so we skipped the state-of-the-art gym but took advantage of the most relaxing and refreshing massages ever.

Highly recommended for both the experienced and novice vacationer.

Fantastic Location - Gorgeous Property!

dragonia64 Bellevue, WA, USA
Review Submitted: August 23, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Just returned from an amazing week long stay with my 14 year old goddaughter at this terrific private apartment. The apartment is beautifully designed with modern appliances, amenities and is comfortable, sparkling clean and spacious. It was very safe and secure for two female travelers. The location, in Palmas Del Mar, is fantastic. You could spend a whole week just within the resort and never get bored there is so much to do! But we enjoy adventure and it was easy to get around and enjoy a snorkeling trip, visit to El Yunque and day trip to Culebra - all well worth it. Russ, our host, was just terrific as others have stated here, and he made us feel very at home. He was a great source of information about the area, gave a fabulous tour of the resort and recommended restaurants, beaches, activities, everything you could want. He was always available for anything that came up, great to chat with, and made us a delicious key lime parfait one evening. He truly goes above and beyond to ensure that his guests have a great stay. I cannot say more about this astonishingly beautiful place in paradise!

Safe for Single Female Travler and more...

Review Submitted: July 9, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
My experience was wonderful. From the initial communication via phone and email with Russ to the comfort of staying at such a beautiful location and the feel of being "right at home". It was worth every dollar! The community is perfect for those who don't want to travel around much. Make sure you take the "tour" Russ gives you upon arrival. You have several almost "private" beaches, small stores to buy breakfast/lunch supplies, restaurants for dinner, golf carts to get around on (I did not rent, had a car, however if I had not been traveling to San Juan and along the Southern Coast I would have not rented a car and done the carts), and gambling at the Sheraton! Just outside of Palmas there is a Salon that I had my nails done at too. Russ is only a phone call away for any questions and if you're lucky, he'll make homemade pizza for you and let you mix after dinner drinks! :-) I will be back.

Great Place to Relax

Maurice and Halina Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Review Submitted: May 18, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
We had a wonderful time in Puerto Rico. The apartment is the lower unit of the owners' home and offers marvelous views of the ocean. It's set among beautiful homes in a magnificent gated community.

My husband was reluctant to rent as he thought it would be too small, but the place is perfect for two people. He was very happy that he trusted my gut instinct about the place. It's clean, beautifully appointed and just the right size.

The owners were away on their own vacation while we were there, but they made sure that everything was taken care of. Their friend, Annie, met us upon our arrival (even though it was Easter Sunday) and showed us around the complex, which is vast. Margarita, their housekeeper, is a wonderful lady and took care of everything.

The complex is amazing and has everything you could possibly want, tennis, golf, horseback riding, beaches, etc. The beach is just a short drive away and was never crowded. While we were there the waves were very high and it was wonderful walking along the beach and watching the brave surfing.

Our main intent was to relax and spent some time exploring Puerto Rico. We will definitely have to return as we never did make it over to the west side of the island.

The only negative (and this is not about the accommodation) was when we were leaving, it took us quite a while to find the airport, but luckily, we did get there on time. The highways are not marked as we're used to, but the roads are the best we've driven on in the Caribbean. I even went to a couple of outlet malls by myself (they're excellent).

We highly recommend this apartment and complex.
