Old-style elegance with hardwood floors and high ceilings, built in 1939 in a beautiful valley. Sit on the wraparound porch and listen to the stream that passes in front of the house. Hiking trail along the creek down to the waterfall, and you can walk all the way down to the Nolachucky River that borders the property. Ping pong table downstairs. Nearby activities: - Whitewater rafting on the Nolachucky River - Hiking on the Appalachian Trail - Rhododenron viewing in June at Bakersville festival and on Roan Mountain - Restaurants, quilt store, crafts stores in Burnsville - Gem mining in Spruce Pine and gem festival in August - Major artist's community: Penland School of Arts and Crafts; studio tours in June and December - Jonesboro, TN storytelling each week and national festival each Fall - Biltmore House in Asheville is an hour away - Erwin, TN Apple Festival in the Fall

Notes: People who love old homes will love this house. It is furnished with a combination of the old and new, with antiques as well as comfortable new furniture and has built-in bookshelves with loads of books. Lots of games, cards, poker chips, puzzles, and ping pong downstairs. The interior is quite beautiful according to the feedback from our guests. Well-behaved pets are welcome and although smoking is not allowed inside, the front porch is very comfortable to sit and rock while you smoke. A big pleasure for animal lovers, especially children, is Abraham, the burrow who lives across the creek. He will greet you when you first come and loves to eat apples and carrots from your hand. The neighboring property has old tobacco barns made of huge, hand chiseled timbers and they are rustically beautiful. Staying at this home gives you a feeling of the past, and you can still find people in this area who make molasses, smoke their own hams, and make apple butter every year.
