Pretty large cottage in beautiful garden with fruit trees, a short walk to the sea where quiet swimming is safest in Rio Tuba Creek (which streams into the sea). Well equipped, 2 bedrooms each with comfortable queen bed. Furniture may look a bit outdated (owners plan some upgrades) but it's clean and complete and the price incredibly low for what you get. Also lot's of extra's and service from the very nice owners. As it is 4 km from downtown Cahuita, you stay without the noise which you may get downtown; we did wake up once 2 out of 3 nights from their guard dogs and once because of howler monkeys (a great experience); apart from that incident it's very quiet. As Cahuita NP is the only Costa Rica NP which doesn't charge ridiculous prices (it's by donation while we've seen prices as high as $ 20 per person) try to book more than the 3 days we did so you can visit that park a few times + lot's of other things to do.
Great place, lovely people, great service and very clean!! This was one of my favorite places on our trip! Really do recommend this beautiful place! Brenda and Loren really are so helpful with advice, taxi booking, really cheap laundry service and really anything they can help with as well as fruit from the lovely garden. Really clean, well equipped, quiet location, very close to the beach, sloths visiting the garden, just everything you could want.
Casa de Regala is cute, quaint & bigger than it looked on line. Very Clean. All of the kitchen cooking supplies you will need are there. It is located On a beautiful piece of property with a fenced in/locked gate with friendly Watch dogs For security. There are all sorts of fruit trees, Native trees and flowers on the acre + property. And you will but not be the only visitors! The howler monkeys pass through every few days as do sloths. Hummingbirds & butterflies are daily visitors. We Also saw a Toucan & canary on the property while we were there! This place is an amazing value!
You can see the ocean from the property and easily walk to the beach In less than five minutes. Be sure to rent the bikes for the nominal fee for the short distance to town. You will feel like a local and biking on that road through the jungle along the coast is exhilarating!
Very nice vacation rental! Hosts are very friendly and helpful and even lent us bicycles for our stay which were great to have to get to the Cahuita centre (about 20 mins or so on bikes). Location is very private on the back of a big lot and an easy walk to the beach. Well stocked kitchen made cooking enjoyable. Would definitely recommend!
There were 4 of us, two adults and two children. A very unique vacation spot. Randy is a great host - he pointed out the howler monkies who foraged on the property for a few days, the sloth hanging out in the tree, and lots of fresh fruit. Truly an amazing place to visit. The weather is fantastic..humid but not too hot. Felt great. Do bring mosquito spray and a few citronella candles for night.
The beach not too far. It was amazing because usually we had the whole beach to ourselves - it stretched out for miles and miles! You would never have this in the states.
I would suggest renting a car since the drive to town takes about 5-10 minutes. We were able to buy groceries and cook many of our meals. The local bakeries have a French influence. Puerto Viejo (about 10 minutes away) had the best chocolate croissants - worth the drive.
Many activities close by. We went on the chocolate tour which was very educational and at the end we were able to assist in making raw chocolate!
The Caribe side isn't for one who likes American style mega resorts. Cahuita has a very mellow laid back style. It seems as if you are stepping back into the past - a much slower pace of life.
Kudos to Randy!!!!
we had an amazing time in Cahuita staying at the lovely cottage!! everything was just like the pictures and description of the house. Randy was a great host and always asked if we needed anything but at the same time respected our privacy. the location was great, howler monkeys could be seen from the front porch and sloths down the road a bit. i will definitely recommend this rental to all my friends and family and hope to be back there soon!!
Cahuita is a laid back and vibrant little village in the setting of Costa Rica’s unique Creole culture, brought about by its Afro-Caribbean heritage. The town of Cahuita hosts several nice restaurants, clubs, grocery stores, pharmacy, Internet cafe, bank with ATM and the entrance to Cahuita National Park. Our home is located just 3 miles north of town on the beach road. The casa is surrounded by trees, Howler monkeys, sloths, toucans and many other types of birds and wildlife are often seen on the property.
