Are you looking for something different ...a clean, fresh and well-maintained beach home? Then welcome to our Rio Del Mar Beach Home, Beach House 257, and a slice of heaven to share with you!

There is a wonderful ocean and beach view from the master bedroom balcony. K, are you asking 'where is the peak of the ocean view?' We don't mention the peak...since you are wondering, from the half bath there is a 'peak' between the condos across the street. Our pictures are accurate, we do not embellish in the least. We wish our guests to be pleasantly 'surprised' upon arrival! One needs to experience Beach House 257 to truly appreciate. None of our guests have been disappointed, they have been pleasantly surprised! Please review our guest's comments, which are available on this site.

We love hearing our guest's excitement in e-mails just before arriving! Then understanding their sadness to leave Beach House 257. Our heart is with them in leaving ...we feel the same way. There is something special about Beach House 257, and one needs to experience to understand …it is such a great home to be with each other, family, and friends. There is something about the ocean, coast and life ...together.

Our guests have the ability to be in communication 24/7 with both Scott and I, Diane. There is much communication sent prior to arrival/instructions/expectations. Scott and I have tried to think of any and all things to make our guests experience a comfortable, joyful and memory building stay. We at one time were a beach home rental guests, therefore our Beach House 257 will reflect us, you as guests, your needs and expectations. We love the drive in on Rio Del Mar Blvd from Highway 1, the beauty of the drive ...as one approaches Beach House 257, descending down the hill, the massive view of the ocean and beach, our hearts race, we are there, Beach House 257, heartbeat of Rio Del Mar. Enjoy the views, enjoy the ride, and enjoy this slice of heaven! You will not be disappointed in Beach House 257 as well as the marvels of Aptos and surrounding areas!

Our beach home has a contemporary style that is inviting for comfort, enjoyment and very well maintained. There are many windows and skylights to allow natural light, which enhances the beauty of the hardwood floors throughout. Many amenities are included for your comfort and stay, including: high ceilings, skylights, new dual pane windows, hardwood floors, fresh paint, soft water, electronic air-filtration system, high speed wireless internet and a LCD HDTV/Home Theater System. A one-car garage as well as two off-street parking spaces is available for guest use.

The living, dining, kitchen area as well as the other two bedrooms look out over Rio Del Mar with gorgeous mountain views by day and romantic city lights at night.

Biking enthusiasts love the area! They own the roads, not vehicles. Vehicles are respectful to the biking enthusiast, pedestrians, animals and community in general.

Hi! We are the Schendel family, we would like for you to meet us, Scott and Diane, our daughters Robyn and Mackenzie.

We live in the Central Valley which gets VERY HOT in the summer, we are totally in nature coastal people!

Aptos is a wonderful community we fell in love with several years ago. Many walks on the beach for day trips with our daughters as they were growing up, then the puppy boys.

We had the opportunity to purchase this wonderful beach house, we loving call Beach House 257 in December of 2007. We have provided a Beach Home full of amentities and comfort with our guests in mind! It is warm, comfortable and inviting to the mind, body and soul. Beach House 257 has this unique ability to soothe and comfort. The treasures of family memories or friends gathering memories is very much the heart of Beach House 257. We have been blessed by our guests and love to hear their excitement about their anticipated arrival as well as their excitement for their time spent at Beach House 257!

We as a family have rented several beach homes over the years, we knew our hearts were at the beach. One of the beach home rentals was in Seacliff, Aptos, we had an opportunity to meet the locals and found this community to be very inviting, they stole our hearts!

We as parents also knew to keep our daughters going on vacation with us we needed to find a 'draw' for them. Beach House 257 is centrally located for diverse enjoyment! Capitola Village is 5 minutes away, Santa Cruz is 10 minutes away, The Gilroy Outlets are 40 minutes away, Monterey and Carmel are 40 minutes away. Best of all, the beach is a 3-1/2 minute walk from the front door of Beach House 257. The beach in Aptos is very family friendly, from the wee ones running, playing, splashing in the surf to the elderly sitting and enjoying their family and friends. There is something for everyone at Beach House 257!

Ahhh, how do we describe the uniqueness of Beach House 257? The pictures do not tell the whole story! As one will read in our guest book online as well as the one at Beach House 257 when they stay, there is a common theme, thread....Beach House 257 is an experience....to see it all in person, all together, very unique in architecture, decor, comfort. The height of the building in itself when inside peering out the many windows. The beautiful hardwood floors, the sky lights, the two person shower in the Master Bedroom, the staircase, the privacy of each of the bedrooms. Each time we go to Beach House 257 we are ever so thankful to share with you, our guests.

Great location, house and hosts

This cheery, light-filled house has it all at a great price. The beds are especially comfortable. The abundance of towels, bedding, and kitchen supplies (including spices, oil & vinegar etc.) make Beach House 257 feel like a real home. Morning walks on the beach, complete with whale and dolphin sightings was an amazing way to start the day. There are many restaurants and shops close by. Be sure to visit Deluxe Foods at Deer Park Center for a wide selection of local delicacies. The owners were communicative and helpful every step of the way. We would stay here again.

Great Fun!

Location was great! The house is very warm and comfortable with all the amenities you need to stay a few days or a week without packing the house. Love the big window in the living room with the view. Comfortable beds, quiet, walking distance to the beach, and a garage to park the car. Dianne and Scott were a pleasure. Highly recommend this beach house as a lovely getaway. We had a great time.

A great getaway for couples or small groups

My girlfriend and I spent two wonderful nights celebrating our anniversary in this lovely home, just a 3 minute walk from the beach. It's beautifully furnished, with a great view from the living room, and most importantly to me: a grill on the side deck. I highly recommend this well-located home as a romantic getaway.

Fair Price for the Location

The house is very multi-level so be prepared. There is not really a deck of any sorts as the house faces the canyon away from the beach. The front door is right near the street and cars do seem to zoom by. No door on the upstairs master bedroom.
House was well stocked with as much or even more than you will need, including q-tips for cleaning your ears of sand. Based on this we were not too happy that they had no bars of soap for the shower. Maybe our bad, but the place is well / over-stocked with everything else. Maybe install a body soap dispenser on the shower wall?!? Two of us stopped taking a shower while the other person drove to the store. Maybe our bad but it just seemed weird.
The oven and stove are out--dated. Almost to the point of the house cabinets being over-stocked with things when there are only 2 electric burners and an electric grill thing.
They also want all the dishes dried and put away before you leave. Most VRBO's we stay at allow the renter to load and run the dishwasher / the cleaning service puts away the clean dishes.
Based on all this we did not even cook in the kitchen and we are both chefs. So some negative stars for this updated modern house with an un-balanced kitchen.
The house is organized and if you forget your 'House Rules' fear not, they are posted everywhere in a font larger than the DMV's eye test.
The beach (Rio Del Mar) is not off-leash dog friendly. Locals warned us but we figured it was still winter, the river was running and the beach was deserted. We did not get a ticket. Walked them early and late (dark) and the dogs had a blast.
There is also one street pullout spot for parking. Since the driveway slopes down to the house we decided to park on the street / pull in the side mirror. No issues and it was large enough for our Ford Expedition.

Upside is the affordability but even considering this we would not stay here again.

The house adjoins the home next door and the walls which are shared include the living room and master bedroom. The guy is nice but does stay up late watching movies and must have surround sound because it was roaring noise in the living room. We thought it was the ocean.

We can also forward a Plot Plan and Floor Plans to help with any decisions regarding layout or access. Additionally, when a booking is requested, a Rental Agreement and House Rules & Information sheet are provided to confirm landlord-tenant responsibilities prior to finalizing a booking. Local ordinance requires portions of these documents to be posted in the house for guest notification on the premises.

In the end, we want Beach House 257 to be right for our guests. We will provide as much information as needed to make sure our guests are comfortable with their decision before, during and after their stay. If there are any questions or concerns, we also welcome your emails or phone calls to help with your decision to stay at our home.

Our Beach Home is 5-7 minutes away from Capitola Village, 10-12 minutes away from Santa Cruz Boardwalk and Downtown Santa Cruz! 40-45 minutes away from Monterey, Carmel, and 17-mile drive! Gilroy Outlets, 40-45 minutes. SERIOUSLY! Time depends upon traffic, day, time of day. We are VERY centrally located to any and all! San Francisco is about 1-1/2 hr away, again depending upon traffic. Aptos has such a family, friendly, wonderful feel, we wish you to enjoy and experience as well!
