COPPER TOP CABIN NEAR CATALOOCHEE IN MAGGIE VALLEY WITH FUN BASEMENT GAME-ROOM

Maggie Valley Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms that sleeps 10

The charming Copper Top cabin is nestled on 4 acres and is very close to the entrance of Cataloochee Ski Area. It has 2 Bedrooms with a queen bed and 1 bedroom in the basement with 2 twin beds. There is a newly added game room, which includes a pool table, air hockey, Foosball, and darts. Copper Top is the perfect vacation spot for any family. Just 35 minutes from Asheville and 1 hour from Gatlinburg, Maggie Valley is nestled in the Smokies and is a quaint little town that provides that quiet vacation getaway.

This beautiful home offers privacy and seclusion, while allowing you to feel connected to your beautiful surroundings and accessible YEAR ROUND even by motorcycle.

There are so many things to do in the Smoky Mountain/Western North Carolina area for both winter and summer months; From whitewater rafting, trout fishing and exploring all the local national parks in the Summertime, to skiing, tubing and making a snowman in the Winter months. This log home is located a short thirty minute drive from Asheville. In addition, other nearby towns such as Bryson City offer train expositions year-round; Gatlinburg, Tennessee is just a forty five minute drive away in the Summer - but do allow extra time in the Winter when the Blue Ridge Parkway and other highways are closed due to inclement weather. If gambling and good food is of interest to you, this serene log home is just twenty minutes away from Cherokee’s Harrah’s Casino.

The satellite TV in the Great Room as well as the Basement have no LOCAL Channels but have many movie channels.

Guestbook comments from the owner
We usually get a cottage on the outer banks of North Carolina, but it was getting a little "old". We had a 75 MPH trip from Eastern NC to Maggie Valley. There are 3 or 4 nice rest areas to picnic or get out and walk the dog, that are maintained by the state of NC YES.!! I did say walk the dog!!! Copper Top has the added attraction of allowing pets, and our little dog just had as much fun as we did.

This has been one of the hottest summers on record, but we were so comfortable with temps in the 70's and at night in the high 60's. This cottage is the most unique one our family has ever stayed in. If you see the picture of the cabin on the net, it looks like a tiny cabin. It has 3 floors and 2 are built into the side of the mountain.! It does seem that you are the only person on the mountain, but you are not. Nice road to the cabin . Our entire family went and we had more than enough room to park 3 cars.

It has just the right amount of kitchen you need on a vacation. You can make large dinners or small suppers and everything is there. Everything is so new. The island in the kitchen has a bar with stools.. There is a nice dining room table as well. The den has a wonderful fireplace which I was sad we did not need! Our 30 somthing children and spouses, and grandson immediately plugged in all their electronic devices. There was no problem using the computers anywhere because the cabin has wireless modems!! Tlie living room with fireplace has a huge cable tv with sattelite hookup.> On this first floor is a large bath and bedroom with Queen bed. and tv/ The beds were already made for us!! The laundry area is perfect with ironing board and iron. The first floor has lovely hardwood floors with rugs in stategic places. The decorator used a Black Bear Theme for many pictures, quilts, even a bear rug on the floor. The quilts and curtains in the home are gorgeous. I love quilts and a country feeling.

A door opens that leads downstairs to the most complete gaming room I have ever seen . There was pool, fooz ball, darts, huge tv with interactive games as well as almost any child or adult game you would want. There is a couch and chair, and it is just the right place for kids or guys who want to watch football games. A porch just outside overlooks the valley going down the mountain. There was a PSP game a

We are from Florida and love to vacation in our mountain home up in the Smokies. We have made incredible memories with our kids there and hope that our guests can enjoy it and have great times with their families at Copper Top!

Marianne Chinea purchased this cabin in 2005

We visited Maggie Valley with some friends since 2001. There was just something about Maggie Valley that lured us in. It's a quaint little town with some amazing views. There are so many fun things to do however also amazing to just sit and read with an incredible view of the Smokies.

It is accessible year-round and the road is paved and maintained year round. We are very close to Cataloochee Ski and Ranch.

MOUNTAIN PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
I was leary of renting something over the internet, however this was everything & more! The cabin is very clean & has all the amenities that one would require. We loved the spectacular view, in the evening or early morning the animals could be seen down below the deck. Nights in the hot tub under a star filled sky were amazing. If you want peace and true relaxation this is the place for you. The seclusion is just enough to enjoy the time away from the rat race and civilization is close enough for all of your needs otherwise. We also did some horseback riding up @ Cattaloochi Ranch just up the mountain from the cabin. The views were breath taking as well. We loved this vacation so much that we are definitely coming back again this summer & really wished it had been available in Dec. The fireplace was wonderful & there is sufficient seating/sleeping for an entire family. The layout/photos of the cabin were exactly as when you arrive. The agent made the rental process smooth & effortless. The brochures in the cabin & the guest sign in book will help you to decide on the best activities. Don't miss a pancake breakfast @ Joe's across from Ghostown in the Sky, delicious. You really must stay @ Copper Top, it is the opportunity of a lifetime!

BEAUTIFUL CABIN, PERFECT LOCATION!

  • 5 of 5
This was our second year to stay here, and we will continue to come back. We come to Cataloochee each year for a long weekend during ski season, and this Cabin is perfect! You cannot get any closer to Cataloochee, and the owners have decorated the cabin beautifully. We stay at 5 star resorts when we travel and we would definately put this in the same category.
The owners have always made booking the property, checking into the property, and checking out of the property an effortless process.

GREAT LOCATION FOR SKIING AND VERY COMFORTABLE

  • 5 of 5
we had a great time in this cabin, which is very spacious with plenty of room for two families with 4 children. I can only recommend staying here, particularly if you want to go skiing and enjoy the easy access to the ski resort while coming back to a warm comfortable space.

NICE CABIN OVERALL HOWEVER THERE ARE SOME ISSUES

  • 3 of 5
The cabin is located on the same street as the Cataloochee Ski Resort so the main road was kind of busy as the ski season was just starting. Being that, the main road was salted before the snow came where other roads were not. We did not consider the cabin as being secluded as there was a house right across the street from it. There is also a local family home across the street as well that has about 3 to 4 dogs and are out in their fenced in yard a lot that bark constantly and jump the fence which was a downfall. Groceries stores are about 20 mins away in either direction (Waynesville or Cherokee) however the Waynesville Food Lion was on less winedy roads. This cabin charges you $5 per bag if you leave any bags of garbage at the house and the local dump is a good 30 mins away. We had to ask locals how to get there and get lost many times as there were no directions or location information/number listed in the cabin. When they state no local channels, that means you will not get ABC, NBC, etc. so the men in our group were not happy that we couldn't get any of the Sunday/Monday or Thanksgiving day football games. They do have the NFL ticket but those games were not on those channels. The dish channel we did get came in and out freezing in the middle of shows. Not sure how that can be fixed. We tried re-setting it but it didn't seem to help much. Internet wouldn't work when we got there so there should be directions on how to troubleshoot as all we had to do was re-set the modem and there is no password needed. Owners are not easy to get a hold of - had to keep asking for lock-key code and directions multiple times, requested internet info with no response (we figured it out ourselves), the pack'n'play that they listed as being at the cabin was missing and it took 4 days to get one... The cabin itself is homey and the downstairs game room was a lot of fun. Most of the board games were missing pieces and Rock Band drum set portion was broken. The upstairs bathroom is basically a jetted tub only; there is a shower head but it is down really low and there is no curtain so the main floor bathroom is what I would consider the one and only shower. Ample kitchen items; enough for us to make Thanksgiving dinner without any issues. There isn't a yard for young children or animals to play.

Owner's Response: The dogs are up on the hill and you cannot hear them inside. We have rented the cabin since it was built in 2006 and have never had a concern regarding the dogs. I live in Florida and had to coordinate for the purchase of another pack and play since the one that was there was missing. It required placing an order and having the maintenance crew pick up and take to the cabin. There is plenty of room to walk a pet up and down the road surrounding the house but I did not state anywhere there was an open area for pets to play. Thanks and we hope you visit Copper Top again.

COPPER TOP CABIN LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2013

  • 3 of 5
Copper Top cabin is a lovely cabin. It is beautifully decorated, well-built, clean and well-equipped with everything you need for your stay. We very much appreciated that it was pet-friendly. The cabin has a nice view from the upper deck; the lower deck is closed in by trees and brush. If that was cut down you would probably have a nice view down to the stream. The cabin is very close to the road and there are neighbors right across the street. They have some dogs that barked and jumped over their fence, so use caution with young kids and pets. The road was ok for walking the dog, but it is a typical mountain road, narrow and winding, so use caution. There is a very small lawn area, so if you are looking for a place where kids can play on the grass, this is not it. The hot tub on the deck was great. The jetted tub in the upstairs bathroom looked like it would be nice, but there was not enough hot water to fill it. The cabin is two miles up a very steep road, so guests should use low-gear when climbing and descending. In winter I would imagine 4 wheel drive is required. The weather was very warm when we visited. The cabin has air conditioning, but it took a long time for the upstairs to be cool enough, and the basement was very cool. An HVAC system with "zones" would help that. Fortunately there were only 2 of us so we did not need the upstairs bedroom. The basement game room is great if you have kids. Be warned that the pool table is for children; it is not a regulation pool table. (but we had fun playing pool anyway!) We lost the internet (along with the satellite TV) a couple times due to storms, but it was just a matter of resetting the modem; the owner should post instructions on how to do that. Also be very careful not to lock yourself out; it would be very easy as the door automatically locks behind you. The pillows in the bedrooms need to be replaced, and the bed was not really very comfortable. All in all we loved the cabin, but our biggest problem was before we even left home. The owner did not give us the access code until two days before we were scheduled to arrive, and was not responsive to our emails. We were afraid we needed to book another cabin. If it is the owner’s policy not to send this information until 48 hours before arrival, they should state that in the rental agreement. Funny thing was, when we sent them a photo of a bear that visited the cabin, they responded within hours.

Ten members of my family spent a week at Copper Top. I wish I could transplant the cabin to my home property! I could live there all year round. I was especially impressed by the kitchen & the laundry room. The grandchildren loved the games & we all enjoyed the hot tub. There was a charcoal grill, not an electric one, but I'm sure there's an explanation. We had great meals at Joey's Pancake House & Maggie Valley Restaurant. The kids especially enjoyed activities in Cherokee & played for hours in the river there. Sliding Rock was quite the experience & hiking in Pisgah National Forest was a big hit with all. I would definitely return to Copper Top. We had one problem with housekeeping but that was solved very quickly by the owners. The photos shown are very accurate & I feel that the price is very reasonable.
