RUSTIC, HISTORIC CREEK SIDE VACATION HOME IN VA MOUNTAINS

Front Royal Cottage Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 2 baths in main house; 1 bedroom in guest cottage; maximum 10 guests

Gooney Lodge is located in the Browntown Valley below Shenandoah National Park. The earliest portion of the house was built in the 1700's. Gooney has been written about in several books and articles, including John Weaver's 'As I Live and Breathe'. Current owners have owned the property since 1958. Located on the banks of Gooney Creek, the main house boasts balconies overlooking vaulted ceilings in living and dining rooms with double fireplace, claw foot tubs (one with shower) in the two bathrooms, an eclectic mix of antique furnishings, including a pump organ and a 100 foot front porch with glider and ceiling fans facing the creek. The kitchen has original stone walls. Swing for children, books, board games, hammock and rocking chairs on the porch. No TV. Radio/CD player, phone for local calls. Fishing in creek and nearby Shenandoah River. Hiking, swimming, canoeing, caving, Civil War battlefields, wineries all proximate. See our website below for more information.

A step back in time...a slower pace of life...: Gooney Lodge is the perfect place to enjoy a quieter time away from it all, centered on spiritual/family/couple/outdoor activities. While there are plenty of places nearby to enjoy movies, restaurants, coffee shops, cell phone usage, and internet connections, Gooney is a return to the time when people talked to each other and spent time together not staring at little screens. Just try an evening spent rocking on the porch, chatting over the day or family memories, reading, watching children outside catching fireflys or fishing, playing board games and charades, singing together or looking at constellations and walking in nature!

Great get away for family and friends!

  • 4 of 5
Can't say enough about this nicely secluded lodge! It was a wonderful get away to bring your family and have a outstanding reconnecting time. Plenty of room, kids loved the stream to find fish and just explore. It was an extra special place to have family reunion photos taken. Can't wait to come again next year! The Wallingsfords 2014.

Great Get Away - Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5
Greetings,

I cannot say enough good things about the Gooney Lodge. A group of 8 adults spent a long weekend here and we enjoyed every minute. The location is wonderful, serene and just what we all needed. It was warm enough to just hang out in the creek, and enjoy nature. The accommodations were perfect. The kitchen had everything you could ever need, even a crock pot. The personal touches, were wonderful and I will be staying here again. Thanks for such a relaxing weekend away Gooney Lodge. You have made a friend for life.

Loved Gooney Lodge

  • 4 of 5
I recently stayed at Gooney lodge and I couldn't say enough good things about this place. It was close enough to DC to not spend hours on the highway, but also remote enough that we felt like we were truly escaping. The lodge is very charming and I loved sitting on the front porch enjoying the sounds of the creek. I would go back any time. It was a wonderful experience to truly unplug for the weekend. No cell service was a blessing!

Perfect Mountain Retreat!

  • 5 of 5
My family and I stayed two nights at the Gooney Lodge but could have easily stayed more! The children on our trip (ages 6 months - 6 years) loved playing in the creek, swinging, and all of the games/puzzles in the home- I don't think any of them noticed there wasn't a TV! The lodge is perfect for multiple families/guests as the kitchen is a great size and there are multiple beds in almost every room. I was impressed by all the thoughtful touches of the home (ceiling fans on the huge porch, multiple fans in each room, large dining table with plenty of chairs). I am sure my family will be back again next summer!

FABULOUS weekend retreat!

  • 5 of 5
What a fabulous place to spend a weekend! We came here with a group of friends and it was all, and more, than we could have hoped for. Seating was plentiful, beds were comfy, the front porch was heaven, kitchen was well stocked, and the list goes on! We went hiking, visited the fabulous winery .4 miles from Gooney, and spent each morning and evening on the porch listening to the river. Could not have asked for a better weekend. Will be highly recommended to family and friends!

Excellent property !!!!! We had a wonderful time.

This house is beautiful!!! I loved the creek, the kitchen. The AC is not needed, the fact that there is no TV or Internet Connection is awesome, we had a real family time playing and talking. Thanks for your hospitality.
