Lovely Maine Retreat

Parched from the heat of the AZ desert, I fell deeply and immediately in love with Vista Linekin Cottage and its lush bayfront surroundings. Situated on a promentory above Linekin Bay, the cottage faces north with dreamy views of Linekin Bay and its western shore from the wide front porch which is lined with Adirondack chairs and a huge picnic table. The house is thoughtfully built with knotty pine throughout and cathedral ceilings, giving the place a spaciousness that average ceiling heights would deny. The fireplace rises up 2 stories and is a true centerpiece of the main living area. Firewood was supplied.
The kitchen is nicely equipped with newer appliances and a full-size washer & dryer (a non-negotiable item for us!)
While the house sleeps six comfortably (there were only the two of us), the single (nicely-appointed) bathroom would make for some scheduling issues if there was a full house.
We rented a kayak from a local company in Boothbay Harbor which was delivered upon our arrival and carried down to the beach where we kept it safely tied when not in use, which wasn't often. A word of caution regarding the beach: the pathway down to the shore from the house is narrow and somewhat steep (also slippery when wet). This was not an issue for us, nor for my family who summer on nearby Capitol Island and who visited frequently. However, an average level of fitness is necessary, especially on the return uphill climb.
We loved the location! The East Boothbay area was new to us. Previous visits were always limited to Boothbay Harbor's western regions, closer to my family. Each morning I walked a 2.5 mile loop (twice) which began right at the cottage's back door, around Ocean Point, that took me past rural and ocean front vistas that were simply dazzling, even on the one morning where a "pea soup" fog descended upon the area. I was never bored on this walk and combined with the exertion of daily kayaking, I returned home trimmer and more fit than when I left Arizona....in spite of all the great food offerings.
The East Boothbay General Store is a treasure! Homemade doughnuts on Sat mornings...just fall in line, it's a popular treat. And, NYC-worthy bagels, good wine selection, stellar sandwiches.
Only a short ride to Hannafords supermarket in Boothbay and a bit further to great dining and shopping in Boothbay Harbor. Or, you can walk to the Ocean Point resort for brunch each morning.
We can't wait to return to the way life should be.
