Beautiful Island Retreat

This is certainly a beautiful home with breathtaking views. Every morning, we enjoyed our coffee on the deck overlooking the bay. It was a treat to watch the osprey diving for their breakfast in the waters below. Gorgeous location! And the house itself has many interesting architectural elements. Clean ,functional and stunning! And the owners and caretaker were all very gracious and informative.
There were 7 of us that stayed at this location for a week. I will say that while there was ample room for all of us, the furnishings were a bit sparse. We would like to have had more comfortable seating. There was a couch and chair in the living room (seating for 4 or 5). The rest of the seating was filled in with folding and kitchen chairs. The owners sense of style, while elegant, is also quite utilitarian. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and supplies. Unless the owner adds more seating and linens though, I would suggest that no more than 4 or 5 people would be really comfortable here.
This is rugged Maine as seen from a luxurious hilltop platform. The location is quite remote. However, it did give us quicker access to the Schoodic Peninsula, which is a beautiful section of Acadia that is probably often overlooked. This location seems ideal for those who are looking for a restful retreat. Those looking to get away from it all will appreciate this quiet commune with nature.
We had 3 teenagers with us who probably would have appreciated being a little closer to the bustle of Bar Harbor. The idea of staying on an island intrigued me and I was looking forward to getting out and exploring it. However, the geography of the island makes that a difficult prospect. It is very steep and rocky. (Although you could chalk that up to my ignorance of Maine's topography; as a great deal of Maine seems steep and rocky.) Not a good location for people with disabilities, the very young or the very old. Our teenagers (actually the adults too) would also have liked a bigger television. A couple of nights we chose to stay home after dinner and watch a little TV. Unfortunately, the only TV is maybe 16" and gets about 4 channels. I think there was a DVD player. But, bring your own movies, I'm not sure where you would rent any.
Overall, this was a beautiful and interesting location and home. (However, I think my family is accustomed to a few more creature comforts than were available here.) Still a wonderful experience for those looking to enjoy the rugged natural beauty of Maine.
Owner's Response: We very much appreciate our renters having taken the time to review their vacation experience and hope this third party opinion will help future visitors make their choice.
Thank you!!
