Photos and Description of the Virginia City vacation house rental 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 5-6

The Vicarage is an immaculate home, fully furnished, 15 minutes west of Ennis and the Madison River. It's just 10 minutes from the Ruby River. It is located on the edge of Virginia City and 1 mile from Nevada City, two of Montana's Gold Rush towns. This home provides spectacular views of several mountain ranges. The large covered porch provides an opportunity to view wildlife and enjoy the scenery. There is a queen bed, 2 twin sized beds and a 3/4 bed. The home also has an old 'claw footed' tub to enjoy a soak. The kitchen is fully furnished with everything you need. The home is filled with antiques from a bygone era. There are lots of fun things to do, from the Opera House and it's melodramas, The Brewery Theatre, rodeo in Ennis, stagecoach and train rides, horseback riding, to the good places to eat and enjoy Montana hospitality. In the winter SKIING is fantastic. World class ski areas are close by and you can X country ski right out the back door. There's no better snow anywhere.

Skiers /Hunters/Fishermen/Kids Activities: Skiing in Montana is fantastic. The snow is light and fluffy, which makes for wonderful powder skiing. World class resorts are nearby without paying the 'mountain' prices for accommodations. There are several resorts including; Big Sky, Bridger Bowl, Moonlight Basin and a smaller area called Maverick Mtn. You can X country ski right out the back door in some of Montana's most beautiful country. Come and ski and feel like a real Montanan. There is plenty of room to store your gear, an outside place to clean your fish and a freezer to freeze them so that you may take them home with you. It's only minutes to two fantastic rivers with some of the world's best fly fishing. If you are hunting the Madison or Ruby Ranges or any area in SW Montana, this is the place for you. Plenty of parking if you have more than one vehicle. There is a kids' fishing pond, horseback riding and a stagecoach.

History Buffs: Virginia City was the territorial capitol of Montana. The original buildings with their displays of original goods is unlike any other frontier town in Montana. Gold was discovered in Alder Gulch in 1863 and the population ballooned to nearly 10,000 people. Today it is a community of 150 year round residents. The Episcopal Church was the first congregation in Montana. The church boasts a Tiffany window. This home provides a sampling of what it may have been like in the 1880's.....but with the comforts of the 21st century.

Rock Hounds: The area around Virginia City is a rock hunters haven. The area is known for its garnets. You can also pan for gold in the surrounding streams. 'Color' is known to have been found and maybe you would be lucky enough to find a nugget.....who knows!

Other Activities: Rock hunting, gold panning and golf

Mountain Quiet At It's Best

Swuzly Southern Maine
Review Submitted: June 13, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Just back from a week long stay in this lovely Montana mountain home. Spectacular views, comfortable furnishings, quiet countryside, plenty to do in the area. Loved Alder Gulch, hiked, fished, visited in shops and towns nearby. Our first time in Montana and the west, would highly recommend to anyone looking for that first excellent Montana experience!

House was as pictured, lovely appointed, property clean and refreshing. Surrounding hillsides perfect for day hikes and short distances with small children. Loved to have meals on the deck and to watch storms come across the valley.

Only regret,... that we didn't stay for 2 weeks!

Thanks for a memorable family vacation!

peace and quiet

Review Submitted: April 28, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
My girlfriend and I went went away for the weekend. Left our husbands with our children, we were on a mission for peace and quiet. Virginia City is typically a tourist destination, but we went when everything was shut down. We had Virginia City and Neveda City all to ourselves. The Vicarage was a retreat any person would enjoy. The hikes from the front door were breathtaking. The community of Virginia City was friendly and fabulous.

We WILL stay here again and next time take the families. Thanks Linda! Your communication was appreciated. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us!
Owner's Response: We strive to have all our renters enjoy our property! We do our best for you to have a wonderful experience when you stay in our home! We want you to come again and enjoy the house as much as we do.

A Great Destination

baxfamtraveler Omaha, NE
Review Submitted: September 5, 2007 Date of Stay: August 2007
We spent a week here in August and had a great time. The house was just as described. We opened all the windows and enjoyed a wonderful breeze everyday. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and listening to the silence of nature. The beds were very comfortable to sleep on and each room is nicely decorated without being cluttered. We had plenty of bathroom space and my son loved the claw foot tub. My family of four had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy reading and napping without being disturbed. We also spent time in town at Virginia City as well as Nevada City just minutes away. These towns gave my family a great old west vacation without breaking the bank. We rode horses, took a stagecoach tour, and had Old Time Photos made without ever waiting in line or being in a crowd. There is so much to do and see in this town and the locals are very friendly. The restaurants were priced well and the service and food was great. We also enjoyed the town museum and other shops. We traveled to Yellowstone and had a great drive with beautiful scenery. We had no cellular signal so we really focused on our time together without being disturbed. I would recommend this house and this town to anyone looking for a great get away vacation.
