The Island House - 1 block from Time Square, 1/2 block to the gulf. Located on the first canal closest to the gulf with a new in ground pool. Totally new, bright colors. Tropical vegetation surrounds this 'cracker' style cottage, built in 1981 and totally renovated in 2008. Come, enjoy our island. Seven miles of beautiful white sandy beaches. No need for the car, walk to restaurants, shopping and live entertainment, or ride the trolley for 50 cents.

For the shelling enthusiast, Sanibel/Captiva Islands are 15 minutes away. For the golfer, a 18 hole exec. golf course located mid-island and many more within driving distance. Two miniature golf courses are located just north of the island. Several marinas on the island offer day or night fishing, and boat rentals. There is a fishing pier located in Time Square. You can take the trolley (25 cents) to Lovers Key State Park (south of the island) and rent a kayak or canoe or explore the nature trails, hiking or bird watching. Para-sailing along the gulf coast or enjoy our gulf breezes windsurfing or kite boarding.

About Jeff Greene / Barby Harms

Barby and I bought the Island House in 2008 and spent 6 months renovating it ourselves while working in Flip Flops and shorts. That was a great 6 months. We already owned 3 vacation rentals in Long Beach, Md. on the Chesapeake Bay, when we decided to buy in FMB. We work well together with my experience in construction and Barby's interior design and decorating skills. After we finished the main house....we enclosed the ground level garage and shop area and made a very primative owners apartment where we can stay when we get away from our home in Md. We tried renting this space to large families that needed more room, But do not rent this out anymore.

We both love boating, paddle-boarding and kite-boarding. Barby is very passionate about the shelling and loves to tell you about her favorite beaches in the area. We have 5 kids and 9 grandchildren, all living in Md.

Why Jeff Greene / Barby Harms chose Fort Myers Beach

Barby has been coming to SW Fla. for years with her sister to shell and enjoy the beaches. She took me on a 30 day trip one January starting in the panhandle and exploring all the gulf coast towns along the way. I wasn't sold on Florida until we drove across the bridge to FMB and I that's all she wrote. We love the laid back , casual , friendly atmosphere on the island. All the colorful Keywest like buildings and palm trees. We chose this cottage to fix up because of the great location on the canal and within 2 blocks of the Time Square area. We can walk to 15 different restaurants and bars ,most with live music nightly.

What makes this cottage unique

We enjoy meeting our guests and sharing our favorite local beaches, restaurants and shops. Relax around our solar heated pool,catch some rays in our lounge chairs, fish from the dock or nap in the hammock. It's all good here at The Island House.

A piece of heaven on earth

The Island house is beautiful inside and out. The location is perfect!! You have privacy in your own back yard yet are so close to everything. If this house could talk it would say, "Welcome to Paradise, come in and relax! " Every room is so nicely decorated. Our 16 year old son especially loved the surf board on the wall above his bed!!

We thoroughly enjoyed the pool and all of the tropical foliage that surrounds it. It is perfect for cooling off on a hot day.The decorative touches and colorful pottery add to this tropical backyard paradise. It was fun watching the pelicans dive into the canal for fish!!

We enjoyed having such a well equipped kitchen. The grill just outside the door was also great for grilling up the fresh grouper and delicious gulf jumbo shrimp which we purchased at the local farmers market. Just a short walk away.

We did not need a car for anything. We rode the trolley to lovers key for 50 cents and found a ton of beautiful seashells. Stopped at Publix grocery store on the way home and stocked up on groceries for the week.

It was hard to leave such a wonderful place. We will cherish the great memories of the island house and hopefully create new ones in the future. Three cheers to Barby and Jeff for creating this little piece of heaven on earth!! It was just perfect in every way. Thank You so much. The pictures of this house are great...but being there in person is even better!! I would highly reccommend it to anyone looking for an extra special get away!!

Wonderful beach house

We spent a week at this lovely beach house and had a fantastic time. The house has everything you need to feel comfortable. We stayed with our toddler daughter and it was a perfect family vacation. Having laundry on site was so convenient!! Jeff and Barby even provided a pack n play and high chair for us.

The pool was a perfect place to relax and cool off. We spent many afternoons poolside as our daughter napped. And downtown and the beaches are just a quick walk away.

Perfect place!

My Mom and I were here for a week and wish it could have been a month! The best part for us was the pool area. We spent most days there having our lunches al fresco watching the jumping fish or the pelicans plopping into the water with a big splash.

The house was clean and cared for. Can't really say it felt like home because at home I have responsibilites and I didn't here!!

We hope to go back next year and reconnect with our lazy alter egos!

We stayed in the house with another family, and we had plenty of space. The kids really enjoyed having the pool to swim in and being able to fish out the back of the house! Everything we needed right there. Short walk to beach and square. Loved it!

Wonderful Home in FMB

My husband and I stayed here in January and loved this house. The house is so comfortable, clean, and beautifully decorated. The kitchen has everything you'll need, and there's a washer/ dryer. Jeff and Barby are terrific; we really enjoyed meeting them. The location of the house is incredible - you can walk to Times Square for dinner, drinks, or ice cream. The beautiful beach is a block away, and beach chairs and towels are supplied. We would have stayed longer if we could!
