Why Kathleen Pfeffer chose Mariposa

This property is designed so nicely nestled in the oaks with nature. Deer often roaming, relaxing and resting in the meadow below the deck.

What makes this house unique

Our secluded oak retreat is incredible for enjoying sunsets, star gazing, wild flowers and bird watching all from the comfort of the deck, hot tub, or large windows in the living-room.

This custom home was designed by a local designer with lots of special details. The open beam ceiling, gable windows and skylights allows the home to feel light and spacious.

Incredible vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

This home was so beautiful and comfortable! We loved cooking in the beautiful kitchen, drinking our coffee and sipping wine on the large porch that overlooks the gorgeous property, and taking dips in the hot tub! The decor in the home is so charming and it really felt like our home away from home. We rented this place as we wanted to spend some time in Yosemite, but honestly, I could have just stayed there the whole weekend! The property was beautiful and we enjoyed morning walks down the gravel road. My husband and I are already trying to plan our next trip up there!

Owner's Response: I am so pleased that you enjoyed the solitude and peace that this home has to offer. Spring is highlighted by the wildflowers and garden beginning their first blooms which can be enjoyed from the deck or in the hot tub. The highest form of praise that we can receive is a return guest. We look forward to the opportunity to host you again! Thanks for choosing our home for your visit in the Sierra and this kind review!

Fabulous Christmas at this lovely Mariposa home

  • 5 of 5

My family chose this vacation property for our first Christmas away from home, and we were not disappointed! All the positive reviews are accurate and the photos do not lie. My wife and our two children, ages 7 and 10, completely enjoyed this 8-acre country estate just 10 minutes' drive outside Mariposa. It's on the way to Yosemite's Arch Rock entrance, which was perfect for us. We wanted a white Christmas (something we'll never get in our warm Phoenix area), and while it did not snow at the house (that would have been lucky indeed!), we did not expect it to, as the home sits at just above 3,000 feet. No worries, we spent three of the days in Yosemite National Park and enjoyed a white Christmas Eve inside the park!

Back to the house, where we spent all of Christmas day -- the kitchen is well equipped (we made a delicious lasagna for the holiday) and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. We loved the skylight above the master bed, and the kids enjoyed having their own ensuite bathroom. We relaxed each evening with a nice hot fire in the wood stove, and the hot tub outside was to die for -- all set up and ready to use without a second thought! That was really special and, in our experience, somewhat unusual. A wonderful touch. We also appreciated the eight private wooded acres surrounding the home. No other houses within sight, which is something we value. The deer really do come around each morning and some afternoons, too.

One of the best things of the whole experience was dealing with the owners, who were a joy to communicate with. They were kind enough to acquire a beautiful Christmas tree for us and set it up in the living room in advance of our arrival, complete with lights and some ornaments! Really, this went above and beyond expectations and made our Christmas experience complete. In summation, we are very glad we chose this property for our holiday excursion and we recommend it without reservation.

Wonderful Thanksgiving in Mariposa/Yosemite!

  • 5 of 5

This is a really wonderful home! We spent three days here as our home base for exploring Yosemite and celebrating Thanksgiving. We saw deer every afternoon on the property which was amazing. Also, our friends who are chefs could not stop raving about how surprised they were about the kitchen being so well-equipped for a rental (they rent homes regularly and declared this kitchen as the best for cooking and socializing that they've ever rented in Yosemite/Mariposa/Oakhurst area). It was so nice to be able to soak in the hot tub after hiking in Yosemite and check out the stars.

Everything was really easy in terms of accessing the home and how to use the hot tub and fireplace (very well documented!). We had a truly memorable trip--thank you so much for letting us stay!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

4 friends and I spent 4 days on a "lady's getaway". It couldn't have been more wonderful. The house is so welcoming, spacious, functional. The kitchen is excellently equipped. The decor and atmosphere is charming. I loved the "feel" of the place, with the vaulted ceiling in the living room and the "sun room" area off of it that warmed our backs in the morning, whilst we watched 12 deer (moms and fawns) nibbling their way across the property. BTW, 2 of us slept on the pull-out sofa in the living room. It was incredibly comfortable!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to experience this wonderful place.

Dream House ... excellent for anyone looking to build memories

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from one of the most memorable family vacations in a long time. We arrived on Dec 27th and stayed here for 3 days. The weather was unreal (read as bright sunshine and nice breeze days) given that December was winding down. The house is very tastefully decorated and you can tell that the owners have furnished the house as if they were going to live there. High ceilings, brand new gadgets (dishwasher, washer/dryer,cooking range) and a well stocked kitchen (includes a range of spices :-) ) make this a place you can instantly call your home.

The house is surrounded by windows and a deck runs all around the house. We were thrilled to see deers right outside our windows in the windows. The highlight for me was waking up at 7 in the morning and taking a walk up the hill right behind the house and watching deer run in the woods. A great way to put the year in perspective and recharge for the next one.

Other cool amenities include a fully function hot tub (I have stayed in places that have advertised a hot tub only only to find that it's next to impossible to get the thing going), Wifi+Netflix (it was nice to watch our favorite movie after a day spent hiking) and a gas powered grill.

Overall a great experience. Kathleen has definitely put a lot of thought into this rental. Looking forward to returning during summer.

Even The Gov't Shutdown Did Not Spoil Our Trip

  • 5 of 5

What a nice home you have made here. We enjoyed the clean feeling of everything. Your kitchen was very well stocked and labeled. We enjoyed the deer visits every day. The hot tub was refreshing. Even though the Government shutdown closed the Park, we were still able to drive thru all areas but the Valley.

We hiked Nelder Grove- South of the Park on 41. The Giant Sequoias were breathtaking. Closer in, we walked down to the water reservoir and loved the "hiking" along the creek in Mariposa. Went to Friday night concert in the Art Park.

The winery at Butterfly Creek off of Triangle Road had a tranquil setting for another picnic. We found nice places for dinner 1) Charles Street, 2) Pizza Factory, 3) 1850 and 4) Savory's.

We did not let the Government shutdown spoil our trip; however, since we did not get to see the Valley, we will have to come back to see the rest of it.

Thank you for opening your home for us,

Joe and Kathy (Roswell, GA)

Owner's Response: It is with great pleasure to read your wonderful review! I am so pleased that you didn't miss a beat with the unfortunate Government shutdown. Your review is sure to inspire other guests that there is much more to Mariposa than its convenient proximity to Yosemite. It is fantastic that you were able to discover some of our hidden treasures. The Nelder Grove is a family favorite for mountain biking amongst the majestic Sequoias! I am impressed with your flexibility, positive spirit and sense of adventure. It is my hope that you are able to visit again and have the opportunity to experience the magic that Yosemite has to offer. However, I am incredibly grateful that you were able to enjoy the comforts of our rental home whilst exploring this wonderful area that we are privileged to call "home."
