Best Kept Secret!
When you have a family of 14 who heads to the mountains every February just to reconnect, you don't expect to find a location that meets your every need. But this one did! It far surpassed the descriptors and pictures, and held surprises at every turn. The playroom off the kitchen/family living area is worth the trip in itself! Crates of legos and cars and a Brio train track complete and a trunk full of puppets with its own puppet theatre.... The assortment busied all 6 grandchildren ages 17 months to 7 years for HOURS! The dining room table that easily seated 8 and the kitchen table right in view for the smaller guests permitted many hours of conversation, games, and FUN! We never even got to the pool table downstairs! And every morning we were happily awakened to playing grandchildren and a sunrise without equal. You really have to see this place!
Another plus when you are in the mountains in February was the quaint town nearby. We spent several days in Saluda and Trion; shops, deli, and nicest thrift store that benefitted the local hospital. We got books for the kiddos and I got a china teacup for my collection. The married sons and wives spent a day in Asheville and one at the Biltmore, just 45 minutes away. The last day we grilled out on the deck and took one last longing gaze around before leaving. As we drove away, I contacted Michelle and booked the cabin for next year!
One suggestion: if you are city-folk like us, you may want 4-wheet drive if it's snowing. Michelle and her crew did everything they could to make it "easy" for us to get there, but with the amount of snow dumped in the South this year, it wasn't easy. Even so, we managed to get 4 cars far enough in the driveway to walk the rest of our supplies up the gravel to the cabin. Once inside we had everything we needed to wait out the thaw. The longer we stayed the more "amenities" we found - from a well-stocked kitchen with spices and dishes/utensils for a crew to even a crockpot! This place really has it all!
Next year we are hoping for a milder winter so we can explore the acres around and see the waterfalls. Mostly on one level, we recommend this cabin for everyone!
PS - Our dogs loved the snow! Thanks Michelle!
