Treat yourself to a relaxing, peaceful vacation in this renovated circa 1881 guest house. Situated in Harborside on Cape Rosier, in the town of Brooksville, this secluded but not isolated property is just steps away from Holbrook Island Sanctuary. Walk across a causeway over reversing falls between a cove and saltwater pond, and you have miles of walking trails, bird watching, fishing, picnic grills and swimming which will keep you as active as you choose. Or the ample games and books back in the rental will help you maintain a low-key pace. Biking and kayaking are favorite activities in the area.

A short five-minute ride down the road is the homestead of Scott and Helen Nearing, instrumental in the back-to-earth movement, where visitors are welcome. Less than an hour away you can enjoy numerous adventures, including a tour of the training ship for the Maine Maritime Academy docked in historic Castine, take in a pottery demonstration in one of the popular studio/showrooms in Blue Hill, bargain shop in Ellsworth at Reny’s (a favorite of Mainers) or the L.L. Bean factory outlet (a national favorite), or eat at a lobster pound overlooking the working harbor in Deer Isle. If you travel another half-hour to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park you’ll return with memories worth the drive.

It has three bedrooms; one double and three twin beds. There is an eat-in kitchen, but meals can also be enjoyed on the deck. A cozy living room, small den, and bathroom with shower complete the floor plan, all on the ground level. All linens and cookware are provided, including a microwave and coffeepot. A small television, VCR and radio are in the living room, and laundry facilities are a few steps away. Did we mention the deck is a perfect place for a nap or grilling under the awning?
