Quiet, family oriented Island located on the Eastern Shore Virginia. This is a vacation which will take you back to a much more peaceful, restful time. The Island is small - 6 miles wide and 1.5 miles wide. It is surrounded by shallow bays which are perfect for crabbing, boating, kayaking and fishing. Access to the beach is on Assateague Island which is accessed by a bridge on Chincoteague. It is 4 miles to the ocean. This is a wonderful 4 mile drive. Gorgeous views of bays, marshes, birds, deer and of course - the wild ponies.
Hiking trails, wildlife loops, biking, jogging, fishing, kayaking, birdwatching & crabbing are some of the activies offered on the refuge. The Beach area does have a lifeguard, bathrooms and outside showers. It is wide, spacious and uncrowded
