DIRECT OCEANFRONT - PANORAMIC VIEWS OF THE HARBOR, SCITUATE & MINOT'S LIGHT

We stayed at Walkabout Cottage for two weeks in June and it was just as advertised. It was clean, had a nicely stocked kitchen, a working grill and nice furnishings that were more than adequate for our family of 5. The view from the back porch is lovely. I fondly remember sitting out there morning, noon and night enjoying the change of scenery depending on the tide, the boat traffic and the weather. We would definitely recommend Walkabout Cottage. Lighthouse beach, a family-friendly beach with gentle waves and warm(ish) water, is a short walk away. The house is great, the location is great and the owners are fabulous. They live right across the street, can and will answer any question and request. We would readily rent from them again.

It's risky business, this banking your entire vacation on an Internet link, isn't it? Much like on a dating site, a house puts her best foot forward, hiding her imperfections with expansive wide angle photos and an inviting description designed to offer you a week of paradise and escape after a year of slaving and saving at your job.
I can tell you from vast Web surfing experience - be it homes or dates - it doesn't always work out.
But then something comes along that revives your faith in cyberspace humanity.
This vacation home. It is EXACTLY as described.
I know what I'm talking about as my family and I have been going steady with this house for three summers. To begin, the house is exactly as you see it in the photographs - from the complete ocean & lighthouse view from the wrap around porch to a fully utensil-stocked open kitchen, large living room and plenty of windows to keep open and suck up the ocean breeze. Three bedrooms upstairs with full bath and the fourth below also has the full bathroom and Jacuzzi tub. Cable TV, free movies, microwave.
Here's what isn't in the description: If you rent this house in Scituate, although you're close to all points Cape, you'll stick close to "home." This place is immaculate, the furniture and linens smell fresh - not musty-rented, every window showcases a different view of this salty little town known as the Irish Riviera. The days are warm as you sprawl out on the seawall and soak up the sun, sit on the hot rocks in the ocean behind you or walk half a block to the Sandy Beach. The nights are cool enough for great dinners on the porch. The neighbors are friendly, the local owners are fantastic - and have become year round friends. An eclectic mix of shops and eateries in town mend the 60's with present day and you can spend hours banging around town or walking the jetties. And if you need to, you're close to Boston and the Cape proper.
I highly recommend "dating" this house on your vacation getaway. Just not during the week I want!
