Do you dream about a place with crystal clear turquoise water? Uncrowded beaches with pale pink sand? Boating to secluded islands? Snorkeling and diving with no one else around? World Class Deep Sea, Reef and Bonefishing? A place with casual beach front bars? Well, Abaco & Great Guana Cay are for you!
Beach Walk Cottage is a recently remodeled three bedroom, two bath house in Great Guana Cay’s Settlement. We’re very close to the Public Dock, just make a right and then a left at Milo’s Vegetable Stand and you’re there! We’re 150 yards to one of Abacos most beautiful beaches and within walking distance to the World Famous Nippers and Grabbers. Also close by is Island Flavors (great burgers and sandwiches), Fig Tree Liquor and the new Drug Store & Sandwich Shop. Just around the corner is Sea Shore Villas/Pirate's Cove featuring Jerry & Chorene's yummy home made food and a tiki bar! Guana Grocery is a little bit further down the road.
Although there are ceiling fans throughout the cottage, there’s central air conditioning for those days that you need it. The master bedroom has a very comfy king-size platform bed with storage. The second bedroom has 2 twin beds which can be pushed together to form a king, and the third bedroom has a double bed. There are two full bathrooms, one with a cute ‘hula skirt’ shower curtain! The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, and everything else you might need. There’s a Weber kettle barbecue and even an outdoor shower!
Hang out on the 'surfboard' deck with a cocktail and watch the 'world' go by. You’ll meet lots of nice people. This is also the perfect place for a barbecue or your morning coffee. If you’re into a more indoor mood, hang out at the bar inside complemented with a hand-painted tropical mural. We have satellite TV and a VHF radio, but no phone. You can listen to the Cruiser’s Net each morning on channel 68 at 8:15. It’s a great way to hear about restaurant specials, weather, what’s happening in Abaco, and have a few laughs.
Great snorkeling is right down the palm lined path, so be sure to bring your gear. You'll be amazed at the colors of the fish and coral and how clear the water is! A rental boat is the perfect way to see Abaco and all the surrounding cays (pronounced keys) and we can help you arange that.
We’re confident that you’ll love our little piece of paradise as much as we do. We will do our best to accommodate your party and make sure you have the best vacation ever!
We live in Southern California and love it very much but we are definitely Abaco-holics at heart! Especially Great Guana Cay! Rick & Tina Ferguson
Tina Ferguson purchased this cottage in 2007
If you love crystal clear water and white sand beaches, Great Guana Cay is the BEST! We first visited in March 2006 and a year and a half later we had Beach Walk Cottage!
Nearby miles of uncrowded pristine beaches, turquoise gin clear water, great snorkeling on the 3rd largest barrier reef in the world, boating and island hopping, deep sea fishing, it just doesn't get any better than this!
Our family of four (two adults, two boys ages 15 and 12) stayed at Beach Walk Cottage for a week in November 2014 over Thanksgiving. It was perfect for us! We loved the convenient location - a short walk from just about everything including the fantastic, beautiful beach, the public boat dock, and restaurants (had a really delicious take-out Thanksgiving dinner from Island Flavors!). The cottage was well furnished, wonderfully decorated, and clean. The cottage is not luxurious, but it is cozy and comfortable. We really felt right at home. The wifi worked great and allowed us to stay in touch with life (emails and voice mails) back home in the USA. The screened in porch and deck were great for keeping our swim shoes, and wet snorkeling gear out of the way, yet handy for our next day at the beach. We would stay here again if we ever make a return visit Guana Cay!
We recently spent 10 days at Beach Walk Cottage over the Christmas Break! We enjoyed our time in the Bahamas immensely. We spent the days touring, boating, snorkelling on the beach in front, as well as the reef, day trips to Man O' War, Hopetown and Shell Island. BeachWalk cottage is cozy and has all the amenities you could want for cooking a great meal and a relaxing atmosphere to chill in the evenings. We walked everywhere on the island, as the distances are so short. Having the second bathroom was so convenient and we loved the outdoor shower to remove all excess sand after a day-trip to the beach. Flying to Marsh Harbour enabled us to stock up on provisions, as we knew the prices would be higher. I had also packed a luggage with peanut butter, dried meats, cheeses, pesto, sauces, tuna, rice, pasta, yeast, crackers...ect which simplified my life considerably. My two boys 5 and 7 shared the room in front with the two twin beds and my 9 year old daughter enjoyed the room with the double bed. The king bed is bliss in the master suite and I loved being able to open all the big windows at night to cool the house down. As well, Tina was so helpful to answer all of my questions before we headed out. Thank-you Rick and Tina for sharing your home with us, we look forward to returning some day!!
Be aware that a vacation in Great Guana is not for everyone!
The house itself is an older cottage, it is well maintained, and the caretakers are very responsive.
The house was very very clean, and the beds were spotless. Do remember you are in the middle of the Caribbean. There are certain things that are endemic here, like mosquitos, sand flies, ants, etc.
The tap water is not potable, it is collected filtered rain water. You are responsible to purchase your water for drinking.
The is,and itself is small, and other than the beach/snorkeling/diving there isn't much todo.
The islands grocery store is closed on Sundays, plan ahead.
Ferry times are limited plan ahead
If you are looking for a quiet place to vacation with your family this may be the place for you.
This was my 5th trip to Guana and my first time staying in Beach Walk Cottage. I'd met Rick and Tina on a previous stay so when I was flipping through rental properties here on VRBO and recognized the property as theirs, I decided to rent it. It's right in the middle of the settlement, so you're close to everything. Nipper's, Grabber's, Pirate's Cove, the liquor store...you know, the important locations ;) If you're planning on heading out with Troy and company at Dive Guana, you may want to consider a golf cart, but otherwise, everything's in easy walking distance.
The place itself is great! A screened in porch for sitting, drinking and partaking of a nice cuban, if that's your thing. One end of the porch is uncovered, so it's more of a deck--great for drying clothes, etc. There's a screened platform around the water hose on one side of the house that's great for washing off the sand or changing out of wet swim suits before heading into the house.
The inside is in great shape and up to date. There's wi-fi, a TV with an HDMI port, dvd player, etc. The wi-fi password is painted on a rock sitting next to the router--I thought that was a nice touch. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms nicely decorated. The AC worked well. All-in-all, I plan to rent the property whenever it's available for my trips and would recommend it to anyone.
Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay at Beach Walk Cottage. The accommodations were great....the house was clean and cared for, there were fresh towels and linens and it pretty much had everything we possibly needed for the week. The location is great since you do not necessarily need a golf cart to get to the beach, restaurants, grocery or liquor store. However, I do recommend having one for at least part of your stay since it is fun to explore and restaurant hop. It was especially helpful when renting a boat from Dive Guana since you do need to transport supplies, food/drinks/ice etc. Our children, 5 and 10 years old found everything they needed and were comfortable in the bedroom with twin beds. Nippers and Grabbers treated us well and we found Pirates Cove, which is right around the corner, to have fabulous food. We snorkeled the amazing reef right over the hill that literally was a 2-3 minute walk from the cottage. Mikey and Unni, the caretakers were easily contacted when we were able to show up on an earlier ferry than expected and Mikey also returned promptly when we had an issue with the stove/oven. He fixed it in no time at all. Tina gave us perfect advice when I spoke to her before we left and everything went smoothly. Thank you Tina and Rick for allowing us to stay at your wonderful island home. It's a great place for the price. You will love it and you will LOVE Great Guana Cay....it is absolutely beautiful!
Spent about a week on Guana in Beach Walk Cottage with a college friend. We were looking to dive and relax. I've been to a few small islands ( utila in the bay islands and isla mujeres off cancun) before and this is probably the smallest- there's about 3-4 restaurant/ bars, a grocery store and post office. If you are looking for a relaxing place, this is it. There are lots of interesting and nice people to meet- many who live there and others who are sailing from the other islands. Beach Walk was great. Its a quick walk down a path to the beach, where you can do some snorkeling. At times, we were the only people on the beach for hours. We did not need a golf cart but if you do, you can rent one a few houses down. The house has everything you need- it was clean, well taken care, has the basics and some more for cooking, has a screened in porch, perfect for when it rains and another deck to take in the sun. It was great for people watching and playing cards. ( which they had along with a couple of board games). They also had direct tv if you want to just watch movies .The owner, Tina was really responsive before the trip and took the time to answer questions. The caretaker Unni met us at the dock when we arrived. It was overall just a great place and glad we did it!
